Resident 2010 - 2012

12/6/2012

There are things you should know before you go. City View is convenient if you want to live and work downtown however like most multi unit apartments it has its issues. The staff is friendly and always willing to help and listen and thats great but at the end of the day you are the one that has to live there. The roaches are a serious problem, there are also bed bug issues, they are always willing to treat and spray if thats any consultation to you. Directly catty corner to the building is a seven eleven and while at first that seem great you will soon learn that it is a regular spot for the homeless and druggies to obtain their liquor. Even if they stopped selling liquor the churches and shelter that service the homeless are right next door. That wouldnt be a problem if they remained outside the buildings but of course that is not the case. The police are always doing drug raids in the surrounding parks and will likely always do so because it is public property and the homeless cannot be forced to leave (nor should they be so you have to be willing to accept that and the fact that you will be constantly harassed). The surrounding area around the buildings are dark and crime is a serious issue. In the short two years I was there , there was a murder in building 30 and 4 in the parks near the apartment and those are just the ones Im aware of. I recently moved this October as the type of people moving in continued to decline. While it was quiet the first summer the one that followed was pure chaos. There were fights at the pool, the elevators constantly broke down and the hallways and elevator while already nasty looking started to constantly be littered with trash. Don't let them tell you they are going to redo the hallways ( they told me that when I moved in, didn't happen) they wont until if and when they renovate. City View does have security on staff however you will find it really makes no difference because there is no lobby attendant and the officers cant be everywhere at once. The basement doors are often left open by exiting tenants and the homeless are always inside . Often at night they get so bold as to sleep in the entry way. Bottom line at the end of the day you have to decide whats important to you. I stayed for two years because of convenience its right by the metrolink and all the buses if you dont have a car thats cool. Im going to have to be honest and say that the events of the last year and tenants forced me to get a car and get the hell out out. It just got too hood for me. They will tell you they don't accept low income residents but once you move in and see your neighbors you'll find that, that is simply not true and while there is nothing wrong with low income people when you are a working person you will soon find you dont want them as your neighbors unless you like the projects. One last thing you should know you will not get your deposit back in the time required by land lord tenant law. So dont count on it if you need it for your new place. You'll get eventually or so they say. Im still waiting.
