Resident 2013 - 2015

5/27/2015

The ladies in the office at this property are kind and helpful but DEI properties is too large to care about their tenants. Their policies were created to protect their profits, not their residents. Here is my letter to corporate summing up the situation: To whom it may concern: I have been a resident at Twin Oaks in Hattiesburg, MS for 2 years. I am writing to inform you of my displeasure with your inability to make exceptions to policies that were created to make managing many properties more profitable and convenient for your company. My sister and I share an apartment and have always paid rent on time, been respectful of our fellow tenants, and followed community rules. Our lease ends July 11th. My sister went to the office and gave verbal notification that we would not be renewing the lease on May 7th. She was given a form that everyone on the lease had to sign. My mother consigned the lease but does not and has never resided at the property. She was out of town for business and we were not able to get her signature within the 60 day allotment period. We were ten days late returning the written notification, despite giving a verbal notification 4 days prior to our deadline. Your company wants to charge us for the ten days it took to return the form and I find this to be unreasonable. We gave verbal notification within the 60 day allotment period and returned the form as soon as we could get my mother's signature. The office was aware we would not be renewing the lease and could therefore plan accordingly. It is my understanding that this policy was created because some lady gave verbal notification she was leaving and the office leased her apartment and then she refused to leave. I should not have to suffer the consequences of someone else's shortcomings. I am upset that despite having a good business relationship over the last 2 years, I am leaving your property with a bitter attitude towards your company. I understand the need for policies when managing such vast resources and people, but there are always exceptions to the rule. I do not think that everyone falls under the same umbrella of circumstances and I am a firm believer in grace. I ask that in future dealings your company take this into account and understand that people and their circumstances are all different despite our cultures desire to standardize them and put them in a more manageable box.
