Resident 2016 - 2021

5/16/2021

I came to USA in 2016 for my higher studies. I stayed in social block (initially college station) for almost 4 ½ years. And during my three years here, I didn’t have any big problems, like I’ve experienced recently. I’ve suffered from these issues since last year, when I got the current management. It affected severely my physical and mental wellbeing. Last year, they (new management) put two guys in my apartment, when the moving-in day happened. I felt very insecure here as I didn’t have anybody with me right there. It is not acceptable to put a girl and boy together in one apartment without asking them. According to my culture, we can only live with boys after the marriage, and I am married also. I just wondered about how the management just do these things without seeking their residents’ happiness and security. Later, after talking to personal there, I realized that this management has some inexperienced personals. Finally, they accepted their fault. However, this created a bad impression on me regarding the management. The second thing is this management doesn’t have any roommate matching system. Then, they put in one roommate last November. She is an American lady and a worker too. She used to smoke in the apartment, and when I said I was allergic to smoking she smoked outside of the apartment. But still, I got that smoke smell and I wore masks even. I had a bad headache at the end of the day and couldn’t concentrate on my studies too. I just avoided going to the kitchen because of the smoke. I explained the situation with the management this several times by personally, emails, and phone calls (even I didn’t have much time to do that since I was in the final year of my Ph.D.) asking for a new apartment. Every time, when I go to the office, the manager said that she can handle this and she has already talked to some new apartment residents regarding this. But, till now I didn’t get any hope of a new place to do my studies peacefully. So, I wanted to finish my studies and leave from here asap. And then, I got two other roommates. They were the people that disturbed my work a lot there. Initially, they wanted to remove my items (food items in the stainless-steel shelf, rice, my boots slippers etc.) from the living room and kitchen. Basically, I had to accept whatever they said as I was forced by them and scared that they will ruin my things (One of the students said that she is an army student too). I dIdn’t have any space to store these things in my room, as they suggested. They threw away my stuff (food items in the fridge, boots that I’ve kept below the kitchen sink) without asking me. When I asked about this, they just said that they don’t know about this. I am a poor student who came from a poor country, and education was my major target. I didn’t have money to get these items back. I have a limited financial background. I talked with them but they didn’t change their mind, they just wanted to remove my items from the kitchen and living room. Sadly, I was bullied by them. They played loud music at night and had parties with friends. This is the only reason that I wanted to finish my studies (Ph.D.) early. I contacted the roommate lives close to my room, regarding that. She said that she needed that when she made her hair even at midnight and when she cleans the apartment. She used the common space to make her hair. When I asked her that can she make her hair and play music in her room, she said she can’t do it. I couldn’t get enough sleep because of the loud music and had a headache the next day when I walked up. When I go to campus, I was sleepy and I couldn’t do my work effectively. This girl does parties until midnight and sleeps until afternoon. But I had a tight schedule. I have to go to the campus every day in the morning and want to finish my work as I was in my final year. When I explained this to her, she replied to me in harsh words that anybody does not want to hear. She doesn’t know how to respect elderly people like me and my other roommate (working lady). I started to wear earplugs (got from the health center) and I’ve got severe ear pain because of that. Basically, she destroyed me both physically and mentally. I was stressed all of these things and had some health center visits to cure my existing headache. Finally, I decided to finish my Ph.D. one semester ahead. When I contacted the management regarding this, I didn’t get much help. They just told, “please talk to your roommate”. It is big humor to talking to a person (roommate) without having a brain to think. If I got much help, my plans could change than this. If I was helped, I am still doing my studies and living happily in my apartment. I was helpless. So, I contacted 911 several times explaining my situation. However, when the corps came, the girl reduced the music. But, the next day then she put it loudly again. I don’t have time to contact 911 every time and even I don’t need to do it if I had good management there. I was fallen down mentally. I had some counseling appointments from the university to maintain my mental wellbeing. I have lots of things to mention other than this, but I stop here. I stayed here for 4 ½ years and I expected that the management will do something do for secure my position here. But, They never thought about me even I explained my situation. Management should be responsible for your residents than this. Because we are the people who bring money to them, right? Otherwise, it will be a bad impression for them in the future.

    Resident 2017 - 2021

    3/22/2021

Very bad management. Not experienced at all. If you wanna suffer from here, you can select this. They don't care for the community. Don't have solutions for problems. Don't know how to handle the problem. I won't recommend here
