Resident 2015 - 2017

8/15/2017

This is my third year at Ashbrook Apartments and I don't have any plans to leave. I like the layout of my 2-bed 2bath unit because it seems fairly space-efficient and allows quite a bit of natural light. Of course, more windows mean that they are a bit less heat and air conditioning efficient than other places I have lived. Drawing the blinds in summer makes a huge difference. Ground level built into hillsides are amazingly easy to keep cool. The renovated units are lovely with lots of cabinet space and wood-look vinyl floors in areas where dirt is most likely to be an issue. There have been several changes in management since I arrived, but it seems to have stabilized. The owning company now directly manages the apartments, but have kept the staff that were working for the last management company. It seems like a positive development. The recent implementation of an annoying parking permit system is the result of residents complaining about non-residents parking near their buildings. There have always been plenty of empty parking spaces available as long as I have lived here, so it is a silly complaint. Now, each person on the lease gets their own parking permit and a guest pass. There is a designated visitor lot for when residents have additional guests. It is a bit annoying since the freedom we had before worked just fine, but that's the consequence of having an office staff that responds to resident feedback. The staff are effective and sociable. The office folks are transparent about new developments and do a good job of trying to make their residents happy. Chris, the head maintenance guy, is very helpful and great with pets. It would be nice to see a bigger dog park. Dogs are finally banned from the tennis court, but the on-site dog park is quite small for the many large dogs I see being walked. A community garden was in the works, but complaining/fighting people at another complex with a garden stopped it from happening here. Since so many other apartment complexes in the area have been advertising themselves as luxury, it appears that Ashbrook is going for "affordable luxury" and rent looks like it is leveling out comparably to other similar apartments. I would and have recommended Ashbrook to a friend. It isn't perfect, but it is quite a nice place to live and is affordable for a grad student/young professional with a roommate.
