Resident 2013 - 2017

8/4/2017

I lived at the Preserve from February 2013 to July 2017; I moved out because I accepted a new job in a different state. I had an excellent experience. My mom was helping me look for apartments and called me as soon as she visited and had me come take a look; I toured it and then applied, was accepted, and did all the paperwork immediately to get the keys right away. I did NOT have one of the renovated units, as they started doing the renovation after I was a tenant, so my appliances weren't new or fancy but they all worked. Maintenance responded to requests in a timely manner. I appreciated the amount of outdoor lighting, as I always felt safe going between my car (parking was convenient) and my apartment. Several times during my 4.5 years the water main to the complex itself had to be turned off to do repairs, and it was usually unexpected. They immediately emailed the tenants with the information about what they were doing and how long they expected it to take, and kept us updated. I had no plumbing, HVAC, or bug issues in my apartment. The tenants are a mix of ages and family styles (single people, couples, families with small kids) although I never saw a lot of teenagers. You could sometimes hear someone vacuuming or playing an instrument in another apartment but I never heard voices/radio/TV/etc between apartments, and overall the soundproofing was excellent. Landscapers come around regularly and maintenance keeps the grounds picked up; branches might be in gardens a day or two after a storm but they clear the walkways and take care of litter. If maintenance sees you walking to the dumpster with a bag of trash and they're going that way on their golf cart they'll offer to take it for you. Snow removal is OK but not great as they don't pre-treat the parking lot; I would recommend a snow shovel to dig your car out of your parking space, and if you can work from home the day after a snowstorm then I would. (Note that a snowstorm is usually a once-a-year event in Charlotte.) I didn't have a ton of interactions with the office staff other than picking up packages but they were always nice and helpful. Rent did tend to increase about 5.5% a year, but I was still paying less than other similar apartments I looked at. Water bill averaged under $15/month and electric averaged around $57/month (higher in winter/summer for heat/AC, less in fall/spring when the weather is nice). Close to I-485, across the street from a post office, cattycorner from the Stonecrest shopping center (with Target, Harris Teeter, Chipotle, a movie theater, and a bunch of other shopping and restaurants), and very close to the Ballantyne Village shopping center and the Blakeney shopping center as well as Bi-Lo and Publix grocery stores. There are a couple of nearby bus stops but they are still probably 1/2 a mile away; Ballantyne doesn't have a lot of public transit. There are also a few different greenways you can easily drive to (within 10 minutes). Overall it's a great complex, and I highly recommend it.
