Resident 2013 - 2015

8/18/2015

My husband and I lived here for two years. During that time, this apartment complex changed hands at least three different times. It was very difficult to know what company was in charge of the complex, and who the managers were, because it kept changing so much. When we moved in, we were promised that they would paint a wall in our apartment. That never happened. When we would come home at night we noticed that there were things going on that we did not like. It seemed like drug deals were occurring at the apartment building next to ours. Our neighbors told us that there had been several break-ins in several apartments and cars. This got better, some, with the change of management. However, in the winter months they do not do much to take care of the roads/sidewalks, and ice builds up and stays there. One of our biggest problems with them was when our air conditioning unit went out at the beginning of May and they did not fix it until the end of July. If my husband had not advocated for help, they never would have given us a standing air unit (which we had to rig up to send the hot air out the window), a window unit, and then finally our our conditioner, we probably would have never gotten it fixed. In fact, he finally had to call the company in charge of the complex because the manager was not making sure the job would get done. This caused us to want to move out, especially when they told us that our rent would be increasing by $51 if we renewed our lease. We were all set to move out, but the people who were selling us their house backed out at the last minute, so we wound up renewing for 6 months. When our lease was getting close to being up, we went to buy a house again. Since we were antsy about losing the house and becoming homeless, we did not fill out our leave request form until about 3 weeks before we were supposed to close. They have given us so much trouble now that we have moved out, saying that we owe them close to $2,000 for not advising them 60 days in advance that we were moving out. The new company in charge only requires a 30 day notice, but they said they could do nothing about our situation. They referred us over to a credit bureau, we tried to work out a deal to pay it off in a matter of 3 weeks for a lower amount, and they refused the deal. With everything we have to worry about, it would be nice if they were to show a little understanding. Honestly, this is just a difficult place to live because you never know who is in charge, the management is constantly changing, and they do not really seem to care about their residents.

Dear resident, This sounds like a really sticky situation. I hate that this happened to you. Sometimes the rules are not fair for everyone. However, they are the rules. I hope you love your new home. Congrats.
