I told the management the type of apartment that I wanted and they said they didn't have one available for when I wanted to move in. However, a girl in the office suddenly interrupted said "oh yes we do!". I tried to see the apartment several times and it was either being painted or something was being fixed. I signed the lease and went to pick up my keys on the day I was supposed to move. However, the management did not have the keys because someone was living in the apartment I had signed the lease for.
According to the office, someone had put in the wrong year when searching for available apartments. I signed the lease without watching the management sign their portion of the lease so I had no legal recourse. The office tried to offer me a different apartment but no apartment that were what I wanted was available. Additionally, they tried to offer me a "lesser" apartment with no discount off the rent. I found that inappropriate, especially considering that they really screwed up. This would not have been an issue if I hadn't needed to be out of my old apartment the next day. Next time I won't be so trusting.
