Resident 2012 - 2013

3/23/2013

My husband and I began apartment hunting in September of 2012, and I checked out almost a dozen apartments during my hunt. For each visit I went in with a list of questions and requirements that I expected to have answered by the time I left. Holli, the woman I'd been in contact with, was not only knowledgeable but very personable. Some people gave me an attitude about having so many questions, but Holli handled them like a champ. The floor plan I originally looked at there was iffy for what my husband and I needed, but I was shown another 2 bed/2 bath that was PERFECT. It not only had a second bedroom with a closet that more than fits all my husbands' gear, but also a sunroom attached to the bedroom for me to use for an office. It also had the other item on my wish list -- a fireplace. You're permitted to paint your apartment (but will be responsible for repainting when you move out) but the colors are already warm and homey. It was a little strange at first to have to go through the master bathroom to get to the master bedroom's closet, but it's actually really convenient once you get used to it. There's more than enough shelving in the apartment, including a built-in adjustable shelf for the TV. There are attachments for a W/D in the apartment and they are in their own room far away from the bedrooms so the noise is minimal. The amenities here are FANTASTIC. I love the free tanning and the gym has a little of everything, along with the smoothie room plus the billards/game room. We have access to the heated indoor pool across the way at Kings Cross Apartments. There is a pet deposit required for animals, and the price of the deposit is based on the weight of the dog and there are breed restrictions (my husband couldn't get his Alaskan klee kai, but we are very happy with our retriever!). There aren't areas set up around the apartment buildings, however, to provide disposal for waste. The only place there is a post with garbage is on the other side of the apartment complex in a small park area. My dog loves the area there, but it's a long ways from the apartment to take her. Some residents here aren't very good about cleaning up after their dogs either. The noise is exactly what you'd expect in an apartment. We can hear when the people upstairs are being really loud, but you can hear it most in the master bathroom. We can't hear the people next door or downstairs at all. The parking is something that can be really irritating, as there's typically a shortage. There've been a few times I've had to park at the clubhouse then walk to my apartment -- but that's something that's being cracked down on, you're now given a King's Pointe sticker for your window when you move in, and unauthorized cars parked in the wrong area can be towed. You are allowed to keep a car on blocks if you're leaving for a deployment, but it has to be in a certain area. Maintenance is great here. Typically an issue is fixed with a day or two, depending on if the problem comes up on a weekend. The maintenance men are always very polite and courteous. One morning I slept through them knocking on the door, so instead of just guessing I wasn't home they went back to the office and had them phone me to see if I was still there. It was an extra step they didn't have to take, but the courtesy impressed me. They've done extra little things they didn't have to. When we swapped out our thermostat there was a different paint color exposed, and they came up and painted that small area so it matched. The attention to detail with maintenance is fantastic. I love this apartment and it's in a great area; super closer to everything. Although the gate isn't fool proof (cars drive in after one another all the time) it does add a sense of security, plus security systems are an option. I don't recommend going with their "bundle utilities" offer. We were told by that company (not King's Pointe) that they estimated our utilities to be around $400 per month, but it's actually a set rate (the price they "estimated" us) and if you go over a certain usage then the price jumps up. It's also a 3 month minimum contract that requires 30 days notice to cancel. Unless you're a big family who uses the utilities a lot, it's a total waste. I definitely recommend KP though. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
