Resident 2016 - 2018

9/9/2018

Our experience living at Terrace Oaks has been less-than-stellar since we moved in at the end of 2016; however, since First Communities Properties has taken over ownership of the community in July 2018, it has descended into an insufferable nightmare. Our biggest frustration-just one among a list too long to enumerate here-has been in simply trying to pay our balance each month. Now into the third month of First Communities' ownership, the online payment system is still non-functional, so residents must pay in-person at the leasing office which is frequently and unpredictably closed during trading hours. For two out of these last three months, I've come by the office three or four times before finally catching someone to whom I could hand our payment, by which time the payment was considered late. To add to this frustration, this month we never even received a balance statement. As our ledger will show, we have never-not even once-paid our balance late in the previous year-and-a-half that we've lived here: the mismanagement under First Communities' ownership has made it nearly impossible to give them money. On Friday, September 7, I approached the general manager, Christa Corbett, about these frustrations. When I arrived at her office, Christa was on the phone: as I waited to be attended to, she slammed the handset onto the cradle and shouted "She is such a liar!" before asking me how she could help. Naturally, my expectations about how our conversation would transpire were immediately set, and they were not positive. The degree of rudeness and arrogant contempt that ensued is difficult to believe. I initially asked Christa to investigate why we hadn't received our balance statement this month, which she refused to do in any consequential way. She also implied that I was lying about the non-functionality of the online payment system despite advice given to me repeatedly by office staff during the course of the last three months. Furthermore, she refused to confirm its functionality in my presence or to investigate the matter or otherwise offer to help in any way. She eventually demanded that I leave her office, leaving my concerns unattended and my senses jarred. There was absolutely no reason for our conversation to escalate to that level, and frankly, I'm still in shock. For what it's worth, the leasing office manager, Amanda, has always been very pleasant and professional, and she has made every attempt to help within the scope of her role. In my opinion, Amanda deserves to be in Christa's position, and Christa might consider a new career in a non-public-facing setting. I would strongly urge anyone considering leasing a unit at Terrace Oaks or any other property managed by First Communities to reconsider.
