Resident 2016 - 2019

6/27/2019

I lived at Camden Crest for approximately 2 1/2 years in a 1 bedroom apartment that initially cost me $779.00 monthly in rent, $82.00 a month for the technology package and $31.00 each month for the valet waste feature. This was back in December of 2016. I was going to school at NC State University and had just a little bit left to go before I graduated so I ended up having to resign another lease with Camden once my initial one ran out. At that point my rent increased to $859.00 per month, the technology package increased to $90.00 per month, and the valet waste still cost $31.00 per month. This increase in rent was explained to be a reflection of the 'current market value' for the unit at the time, and the complex at that time had decided to up the price for the technology package for everyone newly signing with them or resigning. So, I had to suck it up and pay the increased amounts because I was in a hard spot; I did not want to deal with the hassle of moving in the middle of going to school, and I only needed to stay in Raleigh for just a little bit longer. I knew in advance that I was not going to stay in Raleigh after graduation, but if I had, Camden then sent me my third lease to sign. This time the 'best available lease rate' being offered to me was $1071.00 in rent per month, along with the additional $90.00 per month for the technology package and the $31.00 per month for the valet waste... Thank God I already had arrangements to move to Myrtle Beach, SC though. For a cheaper price I am able to live in a way nicer apartment complex, built just 3 years ago, with granite countertops, rich dark wood cabinetry, hardwood floors, new stainless steel appliances, nice grey painted walls with white trim for contrast, high ceilings, washer/dryer included, microwave included, bonus sunroom and patio, large walk-in closet and all the same community amenities (actually more) than what Camden could have ever offered. On top of a break in price, I now do not have people getting arrested outside my front door, I don't have to smell the pungent odor of marijuana anymore coming from my neighbors, I don't have to chase after and squish roaches crawling across my floors, my front door floor mat doesn't get stolen, my packages are safer being sent and left outside my front door, the building is obviously more soundproof here because I no longer hear every single step my neighbors take above and below me, and everyone is incredibly friendly (neighbors and staff included)! I am so glad I got my experience with Camden out of the way because it makes me feel even more blessed to be where I am. I never knew people had it so good for less than the amount I was paying at Camden. Move to Myrtle; you can live 5 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from Broadway, the Pelicans stadium, Market Common, Coastal Grand Mall, etc. I guess you could say I am living my best life. However, my issues with Camden did not cease to exist once I left. BEWARE: The cleaning fee you will end up paying at the end of your stay at Camden won't apparently do much, and do not be surprised to be charged with any additional bills AFTER you have officially moved out. Case in point, I was charged $481.58 more ($414.06 going toward carpet replacement). I am so glad that I took my own pictures of the apartment before I left so I can show them to people so that they can understand how absurd it is that I was charged $400+ for a carpet replacement because of how clean I kept the place. I'm a neat freak! When I left, the carpets were not stained, they were not ripped and torn, if anything, they had light wear due to certain pieces of furniture having sat in certain places for 2+ years (something a good deep cleaning could reverse). And let's not forget... I was owed a carpet cleaning in return for resigning a new lease with Camden after my first lease expired. However, there were multiple times this complex saw a change in staff, and my carpet cleaning was swept under the rug. Keeping this in mind, Camden was not willing to work with me on lowering the last bill because they see it as though they are already shouldering some of the costs for you. Well, I guess even big companies like Camden must be in such dire need for an extra $400. Good luck working with the acting staff, there used to be friendlier people in the front office (Ty Allen, my original leasing agent), and they used to be way more attentive with answering phone calls and getting back with you. All I have to say is beware, you can look back at earlier posts for Camden Crest and see that there are some common complaints to be weary of.
