We lived in a 2 bed 2 bath and were pleased. At the end of our first year, we weren't too surprised at seeing the raise in monthly prices, but we were expecting it and it wasn't too far fetched. We hope to save money to buy a house and start a family, but until then, we are in no hurry to leave. With every apartment complex, there are PROS and CONS. Trust me, there is no place out there that is perfect, unless you own your own house and you are handling everything on your own. Here is my opinion on Southwind Villas: CONS: 1. Noise, if you live in a two-bedroom unit, you can usually hear your neighbors walking/running up the stairs. Sometimes if you're (un)lucky, you can hear them fighting/crying as well. (awkward) 2. The past couple of months, with the exception of Tom, there seemed to be a lot of different people working in the office. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer when the staff knows their residents on a personal basis and the change in staff made things seem like you were explaining yourself over and over again. 3. Rowdy neighbors. Lately, I have noticed that there seems to be a lot more "questionable" residents or friends of residents hanging around the complex. It makes the appearance seem less than classy. I know there's no way to "get rid" of them, I just wish there were an easier way of hiding them. 4. Returned deposits. We had $80 out of our $450 deposit returned to us, which left us more than unhappy. After removing our belongings when we moved out, we spent hours vacuuming and cleaning to the point where it looked exceptional. We knew we wouldn't get our full amount back, due to the carpet replacement and repainting but when we read on our receipt that it took them 5 hours to clean, we thought that was ridiculous. PROS: 1. Tom Williams. He is so nice and helpful. Tom has repeatedly gone out of his way to help us out. He and his wife are so friendly and sweet, we always look forward to running into them. 2. Attached garages. Here in Nebraska, I wouldn't think twice about having a detached garage or living in those apartments where you have to park in a parking lot. With the threat of hail and the annoyance of snow, I'm glad our car is safe from those elements. 3. Location. I love that the complex is on 96th and Giles. You're far enough from the hustle and bustle of Omaha (not to mention the potholes) and you're near major grocery stores and gas stations. There's a walking trail and you have easy access to it from the complex as well. Plus, the aesthetics of the complex has a ton of curb appeal, compared to other apartment complexes in Omaha (aka it's not ------) 4. Most of the neighbors are friendly. I love that they are always waving or smiling if you walk/drive by. There are some people who are mean and rude, but for the most part, the Moody-Gloomy type usually stay indoors and you only see them once every few months. 5. The units are nice. Really, they are. They make sure to change/clean the carpets as well as re-paint the walls before you move into a unit. They are fully equipped with large kitchens, decent sized rooms/closets and fireplaces. OH! and they come with a washer and dryer. 6. The facilities. The gym is open 24hrs a day and the indoor pool gives you hours of fun, even when it's freezing outside! 7. If you're lucky enough to get a unit that backs into Giles, the view is superb. No neighbors or houses and the area is fairly quiet as well. 8. The maintenance people are nice too! I think our usual maintenance guy, Joel moved , but he was really nice. The newer guy seems to be nice as well. Our AC unit gave us problems during the heat wave and they came in and fixed it in less than 2 hrs. Overall, we love it here. You pay a lot in rent, to some people's standards but if you factor in the lawn mowing, snow removal and location, it isn't too bad. If you don't want to pay over $1000 in rent just to live in an apartment, buy or rent yourself a house. At the end of the day (or lease) it's just personal preference.
