Prospective Resident · 2009
We decided to rent from Cambridge because they had a few options for a short term lease. We asked that we be rented an apartment that hadn't been smoked in and preferably didn't have pets in the past. When we asked to see the apartment we would be moving into we were told that was not possible due to the contractors working in the apartment. Once the 1st of September rolled around we went to get our keys. When we went into the apartment and we could tell that it had been smoked in. We also found cigarette butts outside on the patio. There were also remnants of pet food left behind. We started to clean the apartment and when I turned on the water in the bathroom it reaked of cat urine. It was only after we had paid our first months rent that the deal on our house fell through. We hadn't even moved into the apartment complex yet and decided to see if we could get out of our contract. We talked to one of the uncompassionate staff members and basically we were told we would have to give 30 days notice and pay $850 to break our contract. We also had to pay a pro-rated amount for the month of October. We told her our situation and she said she just stared at us blankly. So we wrote her a check for the amount and inquired whether we would be able to get our measly security deposit back. She told us that we would not be able to recoup that money since we broke our contract. So in all we paid $1760 for an apartment we never even moved into. So save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.
