I moved to the Arbors in August 2011. I was living out of state and scheduled a time to view an apartment. I was shown the model. I scheduled a follow-up viewing and requested to see the exact unit I would be moving into. When I made the trip a second time, I was told my potential unit was not ready yet and was instead shown a "comparable" unit in another building. I was very upset because I had made the trip from out of state with the promise I would be shown my unit. Needless to say, the one I was shown was NOT like the one I was moved into. I regretted my decision to move there immediately. The kitchen was FILTHY-dirty and stained flooring and counter tops and dust on the refrigerator and cabinets. The wall behind the stove, above the sink and cabinets were splattered with yellow grease, which was very hard to remove. There were also dead bugs along the baseboards in the living area and bedroom. It was disgusting and I felt so taken advantage of. During the year I lived there, my hot water heater broke TWICE before it was replaced. My air conditioner stopped working twice and the leaks in the hoses the HVAC guy found still have not been fixed or replaced, the A/C unit was just filled with enough coolant so that the A/C could operate for a few weeks. The hallway in my building always smelled TERRIBLE. I believe people should be able to cook whatever they please, but the halls have NO ventilation and the smell would leak into my apartment. It was EXTREMELY unpleasant. Also, the water there is so incredibly hard that it ruined all my glass dishes. It made my hair and skin feel gross and I'm sure it has not been good for my clothes. Over the summer, I was not at the apartment much. I returned after about two weeks out of town and discovered RAT/MOUSE BAIT in my kitchen next to the refrigerator! I had never seen or heard anything and keep my place very clean. I don't doubt that other tenants have pests in their apartment, but I never had. I was not informed prior to them entering my apartment to do this, which is stated in the lease they must do. And they didn't let me know that they were putting POISON in my apartment! Unacceptable! Parking is terrible. There are not nearly enough spots for buildings in the back row. Most days I could not park in front of my building. And the parking rules are ridiculous! Guests cannot park in the lot at ANY time. Guest parking is a few spots near the clubhouse, which is a long walk for people visiting those in the back row. The train goes right by the complex and is VERY loud, as it is essentially in your backyard. The stairs are constantly dirty-scattered with garbage, leafs, dead bugs, etc-and smell dirty like animals. Finally, upon giving my notice, the "manager" was incredibly unprofessional and rude. She raised her voice at me when I asked about prorating rent. I can't believe someone like her has a job working with people! Her behavior was unacceptable and uncalled for. Be sure you give notice by the first of the month you wish to vacate, or you will be charged for the entire next month, even though the lease says you only need to give 30 days notice. I could go on forever about how unpleasant my experience at the Arbors has been. If you are on the fence about renting here, DON'T DO IT! You will regret it.
