I moved to Woodland Heights this year and I was really leery at first because of the reviews on this website. I have lived in apartments for the last 18 years in many different states and I have to say, comparatively speaking it is one of the better complexes I've lived in. I hardly hear my neighbors, unless someone keeps their slider door open and yours is also open, you cannot hear a thing outside of people occasionally walking in the hallways. It is actually one of the more quiet places I've ever lived, to be honest! When I lived at Pine Hill Gardens in Nashua we had to call the police on noisy neighbors every night for 9 months straight - they never got kicked out and we had to suffer listening to their music late into the night. I've never heard anyone blasting music here, even during the day, and I've never had issues with the people above us making too much racket either. I can't hear either of my neighbors on the sides of the apartment, either. The laundry rooms always have at least 2 out of 3 machines working, which is a huge improvement over some other places I've lived. I will agree with some other reviews that stated maintenance is slow to repair damaged machines and empty them out or remove signs to warn others that machines are broken. That is definitely true. But as I said earlier, there's always at least 2 out of 3 machines working at a time and I have rarely hard problems gaining access to the machines when I needed them. As far as maintenance: I've had some issues that needed to be tended to: broken window, sink issues, and repairs needed to my slider door. Maintenance always responded within 24 hours and has always cleaned up after themselves. Never placed blame, either, which is always nice. The office personnel are all really nice and helpful, always willing to listen and trying to improve things if you have complaints. I don't know why people say otherwise. The grounds are kept up pretty well. They mow the lawn every Monday morning (sadly they start at 7am and that is a bit annoying) and do a decent job of keeping the place looking nice. They recently repainted all the porches and redid the lines on the parking lots after filling some potholes. One thing I don't like is how strict they are about what can be on your deck - only patio furniture. You can't keep anything else on your porch, if you do you'll get fined 20 or 25 dollars a day until it is removed, I'm honestly not sure which. That is a little irritating. Some people mentioned trash being everywhere and furniture staying next to dumpsters for days on end. I've only seen couches sit outside for 3 or 4 days max. I've never seen trash in the hallways and only very rarely in the parking lot, like the occasional soda can or cigarette butt. Nothing to be too upset about really. And as for peeing in the hallways? REALLY? WHERE AND WHEN?! I've never seen or smelled it. The inside of the building is always spotless. People come and clean the hallways on a regular basis with a vacuum and they even shampoo the carpets on occasion. I do see the police patrolling frequently, at least twice a day if not more, but I've been here for 4 months and have yet to see the cops ever stop at any of the buildings outside of occasionally delivering eviction notices. I love the fact that they patrol, it makes me feel safer to know that the police come by every so often to keep the kids in line, and believe me there are a lot of kids here. But really, I've never seen them do anything besides the occasional eviction notice and sometimes stopping the teenagers to find out what's going on. I'm outside a lot, for at least 6 hours a day with my kids every day, so I think I'd notice if the cops were routinely making arrests as some people liked to make it sound. There are a LOT of children here, which is a good thing if you also have kids, but bad if you have no interest in kids whatsoever. They are everywhere. Most of them seem to be pretty well behaved, although how many teenagers do you know who don't occasionally cross lines and push boundaries? It's the same here as it is anywhere else. Some of the smaller kids aren't watched over too carefully, which is unfortunate and has led to my kids learning inappropriate words at the play ground and getting bossed around a bit. But in my opinion, was long as YOU are a good parent and watch over your children closely until they are old enough and teach your kids the correct way to behave, you and your kids will be fine here. One thing I have noticed in the short time I've been here is that the office has begun really cracking down on bad tenants, and kicking the slum out. They really are trying to get rid of all the trashy people who frequently get complained about and fall behind in their rent. I've already learned of three "problem" tenants that have moved/been kicked out just while I've been here and the neighbors have been very excited to share the news with me. I read all of the reviews on this place and I've heard stories from other people who live here, and even they agree that most of the negative reviews are complete bull. I've made great friends here, which surprised me because when I read the reviews it sounded like a white trash party complex, and it really isn't AT ALL! My neighbors are all well educated people with good jobs and wonderful heads on their shoulders. I think we've become friendly with over 20 different tenants since moving in. That's not to say there aren't some people who are exactly as some of the other reviewers described - but what place doesn't have the occasional piece of garbage mixed in with the good people? I can't complain about the schools either. I have one child with special needs and I was really worried about her not getting the proper help in the new school, but she's been thriving there, doing way better than she ever did when we lived in Nashua. I've heard from other parents in the complex that the schools are wonderful, so I'm not worried. My kids love the playground and the pool. The pool does get dirty but what pool doesn't? They clean it out every morning it seems. I've gone almost every day it's been open so far and I have no complaints. One thing I do not like how the picnic area is right next to the playground because it is a party spot for adults who like to drink and the last thing I want is for my kids to be around a bunch of drunken adults when they are playing, but it's only an issue maybe one day a week and that's obviously a day we stay away from the playground. This is a really unfortunate design flaw, I must say, and it's probably my biggest complaint about living here. Other than that, I LOVE IT HERE! I personally don't know if it's the building I live in or the great neighbors we have, but my family and I love it here. It's not perfect, but what place is? If you can't afford your own home and have to live in a complex, this is definitely a place you should consider because believe me, it deserves it!
