Here is some background in my short time of living here at Bay Ridge. There are very few positives about my apartment and my experience here. First of all, I moved in to my apartment filled with long black dog hair (all over the floors, painted into the baseboards, window sills, and walls, in and on the kitchen cabinets, in and on the fridge and freezer, in the closets, etc.) Anywhere you could think of, there was dog hair. They had a cleaning lady come while I was moving in, even though that should have been done before I moved in. So, picture me moving everything in, realizing there's dog hair everywhere, move everything to one side of the apartment for the cleaning lady, then move everything to the other side of the apartment, then actually start to unpack. This was equivalent to moving 3 times which was truly an exhausting day. Then, once I realized the hairs were actually painted into everything such as walls and baseboards, maintenance had to come back and scrap them all off and repaint (also something that should have been done before move in.) While my apartment is "renovated," the building is old, the hallways smell terribly and haven't been updated in decades. The deck above my patio looks rotten and is falling apart, and the walls and ceilings are incredibly thin. I can hear every move the folks upstairs make, the dog next door that barks all day long, and the baby next door that cries all throughout the day. The baseboards haven't been updated in years and are very old. The floor in the bedroom is uneven and unlevel. Everything in the room is unlevel so desks, dressers, beds etc. rock back and forth and are uneven. This makes it extremely difficult to do work in a desk that is slanted and a bed that sinks in the middle due to this issue. Maintenance came over to fix this literally empty handed besides a few wooden slabs to put under things. No level or tools or anything. It was also a major headache getting the lease rent and fees correct as well as the portal to reflect the correct rent amount when I was applying/moving in. I had to tell management several times the rent is incorrect on my lease, and the fees are incorrect. I had to SPELL this out to them very specifically, and then a few days later it was finally corrected. Then when I went to pay my first month's rent, I found the fees were incorrect on the portal also!! The rent was prorated for my first month, and I literally had to show them how to do math so they could understand their calculation was wrong. Once I showed them how a prorated month should be calculated, it was finally fixed. It really shouldn't be such a hassle to sign a lease with correct information, have the correct amounts in the rent portal, and move into a clean hair- free apartment. Also, to make matters worse, I had a $400 package stolen yesterday from inside of the mail room. A couple months after moving in my apartment, I found my place is infested with TERMITES. These are truly unsanitary living conditions. Terminix has yet to come help. Maintenance has come by to spray with what they had available. It's as if nobody is realizing that this is an emergency infestation of termites?? When you see one, you should expect thousands more and for it to only get worse. The proper way of dealing with an infestation is having a professional exterminator come in while the resident is in a hotel to fully exterminate and pump the apartment with chemicals. "Swarmers have straight, bead-like antennae, a thick waist, and a pair of long, equal-length wings, that break off easily. The presence of winged termites, or their shedded wings, inside a home, should be a warning of a termite infestation." This is from a pest control site. "An excessive accumulation of garbage, excessive animal feces, the inappropriate presence of human feces, excessive filth, and/or an infestation of vermin in the home may also indicate unsanitary living conditions." I asked how I will be compensated for being forced out of my home during a world pandemic due to the unsanitary living conditions. I was told I would be "allowed" to leave without a termination fee. This is not me voluntarily moving due to a new job or something of that nature. This is a move due to unsanitary and unlivable conditions. An exterminator has still not contained the issue, and it was reported to management 45 days ago. This apartment is a nightmare.
