Resident 2007 - 2008

5/3/2008

I've lived at the Park Apartments since last September, and thought it was about time for me to post how I feel about living here, so here goes: Management: First, I have to say how impressed I have been with how well the complex is managed. The leasing manager, who lives on site in Building 1, is always very responsive and cares about the residents. Maintenance personnel are friendly, professional, and they live on site, as well. Any requests or concerns I've ever had have been taken care of very timely and effectively. Grounds: The grounds are extremely well-kept and safe. It's so relaxing to drive into the park-like setting, and it's even nicer in the spring when all of the trees start flowering (and with summer coming, I'm looking forward to the pool opening again). Also, it's always nice and quiet and the neighbors seem to respect each other. Apartment Features: I have a one-bedroom, upstairs apartment, and I absolutely love it. The apartments are enormous and there's plenty of closet space (including a full-size walk-in closet in the bedroom). Also, all utilities are included except for electricity (but heat and hot water are included, since those are maintained centrally (you can still control your heater individually, though)). The kitchen is a nice size - I have a table in the kitchen so that I can put my exercise equipment in the living room. There's also a ceiling fan in the kitchen. Kitchen stove is electric; there is no sink disposal or dishwasher, but I believe some units do have dishwashers. More importantly to me, though, is that every unit has its own washer and dryer. The only drawback here is that there is no ventilation from the dryer to the outside, so the bathroom gets really hot whenever you run the dryer (I just shut the bathroom door and open the window - not a big deal). Speaking of the bathroom, it is also huge, and the showers work great (excellent water pressure and temperature). The rippled sink is also a nice touch, along with the cabinet behind the mirror. One of the other unique amenities is the screened-in porch, and since most units face the woods, it is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors without being attacked by mosquitoes. Everyone I've ever had over to my apartment has fallen in love with it! Bordentown: I'm originally from Maryland, and you can imagine all of the pre-conceived notions I'd had about New Jersey. I never dreamed there was a place like Bordentown - it's about as picturesque as you can get. Seven or eight blocks of Farnsworth Avenue are absolutely lined with nice restaurants and shops, and there are always tons of people out walking their dogs or just enjoying being there. An excellent grocery store is just around the corner on US-206, and if you're looking for all of the major stores, you'll find everything you need at the Hamilton Marketplace about 10 minutes up US-130. The location is a win-win - away from all the traffic and noise of the city, but very much accessible to both Philadelphia and New York City. If you're commuting to Philadelphia, you just have to drive literally 3 minutes down Park Street to the Bordentown River Line station (plenty of free parking), and from there you can ride down to the Walter Rand Transportation Center, and from there it's a short 5-minute ride on PATCO to the heart of Center City. Door-to-door time to Philly is 55 minutes. If you're going to New York, you can either take the River Line to Trenton and transfer to the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line, or you can just drive the 10 minutes to the Hamilton Station (which is one stop closer in from Trenton) and ride directly from there. There's always plenty of parking at Hamilton in the huge garage. Door-to-door time to NYC is about 1 hour 25 minutes. Taking Amtrak or flying out of town from Newark airport? Just leave your car at home and take the 409 bus from right outside the Park Apartments directly to the Trenton Rail Station. From there, you can get directly onto an Amtrak train to anywhere in the Northeast, or take NJ Transit to the Newark Liberty International Airport station and fly from there. In conclusion: If you're looking for a quiet, safe, relaxing place to live with plenty of space, plenty of free parking, and great location, this is the perfect place. Also, if you want to have cats in your apartment, they are allowed for a nominal charge per month - I always see my neighbors' cats sitting in their windows. Unfortunately, I'll be relocating back to Maryland soon and will have to move out, but I've absolutely loved my time here and will never think of New Jersey the same way again!
