Late Fee and Policy
Somehow, since 2006, moving as consultant from one project to another, I ended up renting Equity properties in Plainsboro, NJ, New York City and since recently in JC at 70 Greene. I love my studio, commute and neighborhood. Everything was perfect until few days ago. I received an email from Equity informing me that I did not pay my rent and late fee in the amount of $180 was added. I was surprised and checked with my bank since the check was mailed out via bank's bill payment system. Well, USPS returned the check as undeliverable. I contacted property, explained what happened, paid the rent and asked for the late fee to be removed since I was never late with any payment. The property administrator, general manager and regional manager are invoking the policy as the reason for not voiding the late fee. Please note, the late fee is $180. I will end up paying the fee, but is that the best solution. Few days ago, I would recommend this place. Now, my perception about the lease changed and I notice roaches running through the building, smell of garbage at the ground level and on the floors garbage area, lack of ventilation in the bathroom, dogs poop on the 11th floor pool area and other complaints people left. I hope my late fee will be used by the Equity as a donation to some charity - at least I would feel as I contributed toward something good instead of contributing toward the bonuses to inefficient management4/17/2012
