Resident • 2000 - 2002 Not Recommended
My wife and I have been living in Avalon Tower for about 2 years, and we eventually decide to move out when our lease is up. We are extremely disappointed with the level of services they have provided which doesn´t warrant the rent they charged for the residents. Sure, Avalon is a beautiful community, but we are very disappointed and often agitated by the management staff. Normally, we have to keep following up with them on an oustanding request, and each time they will give you a different reason why the request hasn´t been complete. On-site maintenace staff and the emergency tollfree line is a joke. A clog in the toilet bowl takes them 3 days to fix. Once the wall-mounted shelf inside our walk-in closet fell, and it took them 6 days to come fix. About rent hike, they jacked up the rent for 2001-2002 by 16% (vs ~5% in the nearby buildings). Even after 9/11, their rent is still substantially higher than other buildings with the same quality around the area. After we told them we are moving out, they finally offered us a lower rent - a respectable $50 reduction and lower amenity fee which we could easily save by not eating out for one meal ! Some people at the Concierge is good, but overall they give us an unprofessional impression. Often time (especially at night) we see some new faces in the building using the facility, and we are wondering if they are the "guests" of the concierge people.

Bottom line: The quality of services at Avalon truly does not warrant the premium charged on the rent. It´s a beautiful community but with very lousy management & extremely poor maintenance services. If you don´t mind getting fed up with them from time to time when you need help, this is a great place to live. For us, we choose to stay away from any Avalon apartment just for the peace of mind !
