The building is kept very clean and the location is fantastic - near the train, the local "mountain", and the small downtown with cafes, a public library, and a lovely park. Also, the tenants are nearly all quite nice. The street traffic can be noisy,See More >

We've been living here for almost 3 years now. We wouldn't change it for any other place. Very convenient to take the train, you can walk to all restaurants, movie theater, and the South Mountain Reservation which is awesome. Maria and Luis manage the buildingSee More >

Unfortunately, two residents were in fact burglarized on the same afternoon, which is an unsettling situation and not one we want any of our residents to face. Our motto is "Inspiring Our Neighbors" and we take it very seriously. None of the locked building entrances showed any signs of forced entry from the street. A security consultant who toured the building with the owner on Monday morning after the intrusion noted that some strike plates on the apartment door frames would be more secure if they were reinforced, and the manager did this immediately. In addition, the company immediately signed an installation contract for indoor and outdoor cameras. The cameras record activity for a 60-day period and can be viewed in real time on the internet. This is most likely one of the few 17-unit rental apartment buildings in New Jersey that has a full 24-hour video recording from multiple cameras. Management also installed additional security measures in the basement to prevent future break-ins, including shatter-resistant Plexiglas on the entrance door and bars on basement windows. To avoid fully describing our security measures in a public forum, some additional work we did will not be discussed here. Concerning the washing machines, the building has had two washers and two driers in the basement for over 20 years. We have never gotten any complaint that these were less than adequate. Last spring, management made a decision to move the machines from the basement onto the above resident floors -- solely for the convenience of the residents. A new pair of machines were installed in vacant hall closets on the first and second floors of the building within steps of the apartment entrances. Since two apartments are in the basement and five are on the third floor, management felt this was a good compromise and brought the machines much closer to most of the residents. We never anticipated that the residents on the third floor would feel slighted because the closest machine was one floor down - even if they no longer had to go to the basement. Two third-floor residents made it very clear to us that they wanted machines on their own floor as well. To increase resident satisfaction we would like to install machines on the third floor as well. Since the low number of total washes does not support the machines now, we would have to raise the current pricing above $1.25 per load if we add more machines. Parking in the heart of downtown Millburn can be inconvenient but is doable. Building residents who don't have one of the 8 spots at the building can buy a $300/year parking permit for 24-hour access to the town parking lot less than two blocks away. Resident visitors can park at meters in front of the building during the day for two hours at a time. From 6 pm to 2 am, street parking in the neighborhood is free. Millburn allows visitors or residents with an extra car to park overnight on streets if the license plate of the car is called into the police department each night. For many of our residents, living downtown in this classic art-deco building, near many restaurants and stores, a two-minute walk from the direct-to-New York train, offers benefits that outweigh the parking inconveniences. As far as the heat goes, an updated heat control system was installed in the building about two weeks before this review. The adjustment period and fine-tuning is over, and the heat is working well. Other residents, including the owner who now lives in the building, have said the heat is now much more stable. Living with a roof leak isn't acceptable, and the roof was repaired. We are here for our residents, and work hard to make sure they don't need to worry about any aspects of their apartment living. If any resident is focused on a negative experience in his or her home, it means we are doing something wrong. It is bad for the resident and bad for us. Hopefully, the improved security, the new heat computer, and the roof repairs have addressed this resident's concerns. In the meantime, we will continue to strive to "Inspire Our Neighbors" 100% of the time.
