Resident 2004 - 2009

5/25/2009

currently i reside at Rutgers village, i lived here for 5 years. I can say for sure that living conditions here is on shaky grounds. The main issue is the bed bug problem that we are having. The management here will send out a pest control company within 24-48 hours to treat your unit if you report the problem, the treatment usually last a week. The bottom-line is if you are going to move here you should take some precautions to protect yourself. I have never had any bed bug problems until early this year. Once i noticed that i had a bug issue i advised the management and they sent the pest control company over to treat the problem. The entire episode cost me $350 out of pocket (management pays for the treatment). I had to wash and dry clean all of my cloths, buy a vacuum cleaner, purchase bed bug covers for my bed, and buy cleaning supplies. I am not sure that they are doing everything that they can to prevent units from getting infected. They definately need to start educating the residence.Again, if you are going to move here or if you live here already, you should make sure that you outfit all of your beds/box springs with bed bug covers. You should make sure that your beddings is not touching the floors are walls, pull your beds and couches away from the walls. And make sure your apartment especially your bedroom is clutter free. Having a clutter free apartment will help when checking for these tiny pest and give them fewer places to hide. If you suspect you have these critters CALL management IMMEDIATELY. I live on the New Road side, parking here is plentiful, unless you are out pass 10pm then you may have an issue getting a space close to your unit. Maintenance of the grounds is good, the grounds are relatively garbage free. The noise factor is average, but it depends on who lives above or below you. I do not have a noise issue. I never used the laundry room so i cannot comment on it. Maintenance of the apartment is acceptable, if you have an issue they will usually show-up within 24-48 hours. If you report a problem they (management)will enter your apartment whether you are home or not not, so be aware. I have noticed no issues with the heat, it is always on during the winter months. Be aware that they will raise your rent every year, my rent has gone up an avearge of $30 per year. They have a pool here, but you will be charged a seasonal fee of at least $100 to use it.In conclusion, because of the bed bug issues it would be tough for me personally to recommend this place, but it is up to you the individual to make that decision. In fairness, keep in mind that the bed bug issue is not solely a Rutgers Village problem, from what i have learned from my research, bed bugs are on the rise across the state. Do your home and ask questions before moving into any complex.I am giving Rutgers Village another chance, however if my apartment is invested again, i will be looking for somewhere else to live.
