Resident 2016

8/22/2016

I have lived in a third floor apartment facing the train for almost three months and have these opinions to offer: PROS: 1) Maintenance is outstanding; courteous and respectful people who have responded to a handful of low-priority requests by the following business day. 2) Residents appear friendly (or at least respectful) for the most part. I haven't heard any music blasting in the evening or kids loitering in the hallways. 3) Conveniently located very close to a gas station, Dunkin Donuts, nail salon, dry cleaner, and a couple of nice bars. Very easy to get to Route 80, 46, and the Parkway. Less than a ten minute drive from Plauderville station which has free parking (and spots still available before 8am on weekdays - good for a lot of commuters). CONS: 1) NOISE. The freight train noise is incredibly disruptive to me. I was told the trains don't pass by often; once I'd lived at Mayhill for a couple of weeks, I strongly disagreed. They come by a handful of times a night, Monday through Thursday, and have woken me up (and kept me awake) at 11:30pm and 3am. The trains tend to linger on the tracks and make obnoxious noises that are sometimes loud enough to make me jump - home should be where you go to relax, shouldn't it? I've read opposing reviews from tenants who don't mind the noise at all, so I know this is subjective; but if you're sensitive to sound, beware. It's gotten so bad for me that I'm moving out in the fall. Windows offer almost no sound insulation. If all your windows are closed and you have the tv and air conditioning on, you will still hear people talking outside. Dogs in my building bark very often and late into the night. People in the upstairs apartment are incredibly noisy on weekends - it sounds like children sprinting and throwing each other around as well as an adult dramatically stomping. They also love dropping heavy objects. 2) Parking garage is a great perk for the most part (no shoveling your car out in winter) but certain people take corners at high speed with no consideration for a potential car coming in the opposite direction. I haven't even been there three months and have almost gotten into a couple of fender-benders. My general opinion is that if you don't mind noise, you could very well love it here. Anyone looking for peace shouldn't take the risk (especially not for the high rent).
