Places not to go to in Co Op City

Don't go to sections 4, 2, or 5. You will get robbed or assaulted. Every night various outside with ski masks and they are smoking weed. They will rob you if you got good-looking shoes or if you look at them funny. Please whatever you do not come here. different men stand.

Waited 5 years for this crap.

Was on a wait list for 5 years because my family already lives in Co op and thought it would be better if I were close to them. Oh gosh do I regret it. These new tenants are Loud, rude constantly slam their doors. Always soliciting something its a shame how the people are running this place down. You try and complain but no one listens. The walls are super thin it's ridiculous. I sleep with large headphones on. My neighboors above me have a kid that runs, stomps, jumps constantly. My neighboor beside me has two girls who scream and cry all day long. They slam into the walls and they get yelled at by their father constantly. These walls are so thin I could hear what's being done in someone else's private room. Extremely disappointed wasn't expecting that project mentality to be alive in this community. They need to screen the people better from here on out.

      Don’t Do It!!!!!

This place is a plumbing nightmare. Every summer it’s floods, leaks, and constant construction. You can’t live peacefully. They are steadily wanting access to your apartment to check for leaks. The convectors are a health hazard and needs to be be replaced. They have the nerve to increase rent. If they fixed everything the correct way they wouldn’t have to constantly repair the same things over and over. I literally hate it here now!!! I have anxiety when I leave my home for fear I’ll return to a damaged apartment from a flood.

My name is Beverly M Briggs. I moved into Coop city in 1992 Now Iam a retired Veteran with 30 years’ service ,72 years old with several orthopedic disabilities. My concern is the front elevator in garage 7. During the years I have lived in Coop city this elevator has continuously gone out of service. I did not pay much attention to it because in my youth I was able to walk to the back of the garage to the rear elevator . In the last 10 years due to injuries obtained during my military career I am unable to walk long distances or carry heavy objects without experiencing knee and back pain. Each time I enter the garage I experience pain walking to the back of the garage to use the rear elevator. Not only is it painful, but dangerous at night as well as dodging the incoming traffic coming up, the ramp. The front elevator has broken this year alone 2021, March 6, March 9, March 28, June 19, July 8, July 10, Aug 18, Aug 23, Oct 26. It remains out of order until further notice. I called the garage they told me to call management. I… See More>

My mom lives here. She has had a leak in the bathroom ceiling for about a year now, You have to make an appointment for them to see it, a month later for just scrapping and plaster, then another month to paint. By the time the plaster dries it leaks again and you begin the process all over again because they don't fix things they just put a bandaid on it. Now on top the bathroom ceiling once again leaking, hanging down and debri on toilet, sink and shower. The convectors that supplies heat/ AC got backed up due to no drainage in the basement, flooded her apartment with her new furniture she spent thousands on. The floors are like a waterbed. They had to call an outside plumber to fix the problem in the basement. It took them days to finally get the convector to stop leaking. I drove from New Jersey left work with no pay, helped contain the leak drove to main office and got no help. I cleaned up came back the next day day and it was like I did nothing and also didn't get a call back until the next day and even that… See More>

The walls are paper thin, I have to sleep with ear plugs in order to get adequate rest. Water is cut off often without prior notice due to quote on quote emergency repairs. We don't receive credit on our monthly maintenance fees for this inconvenience. You lose 3 months of maintenance once you decide to move.

Terrible. Live with noisy neighbors who don't work so they stay home all day and kids run jump stomp scream bang yell thump drag furniture ALL day long and the apartments have no soundproofing. It's excessive noise and it overtakes my apt to The point where I can no longer function properly in my apt. Noise emits LOUD into my apt. No peace and quiet enjoyment of my apt. The floors have no underlayment material to help with impact and airborne noise. Management ignore the complaints and if they feel like responding, they act like robots and take sides with the offender as opposed to properly investigating the noise and assisting per the rules in occupancy agreement. No enforcement of rules. They make bias decisions based on their own opinions instead of facts. Even the police does not help. I've found out they even defamed me in their records by stating lies about me. This ordeal has stressed me to the point where I've had anxiety attacks and now take blood pressure meds among other medication for stress related illnesses. My income does not allow me to move elsewhere and they won't grant me a free transfer. I have to… See More>

Lived here since 81. Things were ok as a young child. As time went on, countless "----------" moved in and all of the ---- moved out. The place is now 98% ----------. There's nothing here but fake gangsters who stand on the corner and in front buildings and in the lobbies from morning to night; the same faces every day all day. These teens as well as many adults do not work. Ask yourself how they live. Is the entirety of co op on ---------? Some of these groups also stalk and harass along with the fake security around here that is criminal. No real crimes happen there. Fake things happen so that security can remain to continue their criminal activity. There is a complete ring going on. Many are also involved in witchcraft. These folks know when you come and go and follow you all over the place. If you are thinking of moving here, DO NOT, especially if you have children. If you don't listen and you move in and you start hearing footprints above follow you around all day and night, don't say no one told you.

I moved into building 4A in June 1969 and moved out in Oct.1980 after 11 years. At first everything was spanking new! The schools, the stores and everything. The Co-op greenway fair was so much fun! I made so many friends and had the best childhood growing up in Co-op in the 70's!! By the time we moved out the place started to change. It was getting dirtier and teens were hanging out in the front smoking and yelling and banging on drums. People were getting mugged all over the place! The laundry rooms got gross and that was way back in 1980. Imagine the place today LOL!!!!!I got 11 good years out of that place and each year after it got worse and worse as original tenants started to "run". Its a shame because back in the day it was truely lovely. Now it just looks like the rest of the decaying Bronx.

are you really that shallow, did you really think that everyone on --------- is bad. You are what makes society bad, your ignorance and your shallowness is disgusting. Its people like you that make this world a bad place and trust and believe you will be miserable for the rest of your life. Sad that people like yourself are so self centered with no compassion, and if educated don't show it.

Looking at all the reviews, I realize it is easy for newcomers to think that Coop City is an optimal place to live. This is because notwithstanding all inclusive cheap maintenance, they are only comparing it to where they came from; which evidently was not as nice as where they are now. However, us old timers, (1969 thru the 70"s) have seen the overall decline in the development and services. There has been gross mismanagement, corruption, deterioration, engineering problems, and an increase in crime. The once majority Hasidic and orthodox Jewish population has dwindled down to nil. This was a group that took special interest in the community. They had a very strong voice in what went on with Management and they made a substantial impact on the Community Board and district leaders and were able to see results. A change in the demortaphics over the years has seen the realization of a much more detached resident.

The staff in the administrative office must be education in customer services. The staff doesn't know how to speak to customers and make them wait several weeks or month before we can obtain any answers to our questions regarding maintenance. The staff also need to be educated on how to treat handicaps. There are several residence who have medical issue and require service dogs which can save there lives. These services dog are trained and approved by state laws to insure the safety of the individual. Coop city personnel especially the CCPD are not trained on how to identify a service dog by there vest which is issued by the state or to even ask politely for documentation proving the dog is a therapy dog. Instead the harass the customers and treat them like criminals. We may be black but the days of treating us like garbage ended years ago. The parking is the worst, you have vehicles with plaques parking in No Standing zones and know one does anything about it. Our circle suppose to be clear for traffic to move freely but instead you have vehicles double parked with music blasting and unauthorized vehicle left for hours. There… See More>

Ive been living in coop city since 2009, I will first began with the disadvantages for myself. I honestly do not feel safe living here. My car is usually parked in the garage, and entering and exiting the garage early in the morning and late nights are scary. When parking the car, no one is usually around and I pray a car goes pass or others are also parking their car. Leaving the garage to walk to the building for me is also daunting. I pray to get safely to my building w/o being attacked. Living with neighbors can really be tough as well. With the frequent slamming of doors, and the running back and forth over top my head can really be upsetting considering I have to get up early im the morning to go to work or just want a piece of mind. There is constant hammering and drilling early in the morning. The Riverbay staff (those with uniforms) sit on the bench as early as 7am laughing yelling talking loud no respect to those who live here. This is a working class community with a lot of professional people… See More>

Just read the reviews of co-op city. Was thinking of mass marketing my adventure tour business there for people who have never experienced the outdoors as I have. Not talking about climbing mount Rushmore but along the lines of easy camping canoe and kayak trips white water rafting in Maine snow tubing ect....Is this something a lot of people would want?

6 of one half dozen of another

My time in Co-op was 1994-2010.I left not due to maintenance problems, construction noise, confused geese or management "issues". I left because of weather! Now the vast majority of residents or as many affectionately say "co-operators" are first time home owners. Owners may not be correct in a co-op but for the sake of this note I'll use it. The thing I disliked of Co-op City was the 'owe" me attitude of many residents. Take a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath terrace apartment with amenities of laundry rooms, porters to take garbage, sweep, mop, shine hallways, lobbies (remember there are some filthy people around and porters have a hell of a job)lawns mowed, gardens watered, private security no matter how you feel about it and so on and so on,you would be paying a whole lot more! With 15,000 units I was always amazed how residents would demand their "problems" to be resolved Johnny on the spot. I agree. Sometimes a resolution needed to be taken almost to the superior court level but some complaint/demands made my head hurt. The sheer size and age of Co-op City is daunting. But if the "co-operators" old and new would realize this, adhere to… See More>

Lived here 25 years...best deal in the bronx

Co-Op city is a great place to live. My family has lived here for over 25 years and I have never had a problem other than some maintenance issues with my apartment which were taken care of in sufficient time. I take the express bus everyday and it is a joy not to have to ride the bus and then the subway. Cost more but worth it. The hallways & laundry rooms are clean. I have never had a security problem. I live on Baychester which is one of the better areas. Co-op gets a bad rap but there is no community in NY that does not have some type of crime.

                                            Too Bad, Co-op City

I moved to Co-op City with my parents in 1970, original co-operators. Although Co-op City was still in the process of adding sidewalks, stores, etc., it was a beautiful place to live! I never felt afraid, the maintainance fee was quite a bargain. Now, in 2011 I'm very dissapointed in Co-op City. I still live in our original apartment by myself. Father moved to different apartment after my mom's death and his subsequent remarriage. I'm sorry to say that the quality of people moving in has declined considerably! I often wonder how they are able to afford to live here because the "rent" is not the bargain it used to be. We have had increase after increase after increase in just a few years! Before anybody calls me a racist, I must tell you that I'm an African American woman. I'm fed up with the "scary" looking people I see around here. Fed up with hearing gunshots and seeing people hanging around as though they have nothing better to do. Where are the parents of these kids that I see congregating in groups, doing nothing? This is not the way a so-called middle income neighborhood should be. There's no excuse… See More>

The best buy in New York City

A complex that was built over 30 years ago, with major renovations having been made and continue to be made, for a reasonable price to buy your share in the corporation. Having been a resident for more that 12 years, I have found Co-op City a great place to live. Prior to living here, I owned a Condominium in Cobble Hill the was valued at $250,000 when I sold it. The layout of the 3 bedroom apartment here is better than the condo in Brooklyn. Parking for a monthly fee of less than $65.00 a month is unheard of. The top Maintenance Fee is less than $1,200 a month including your gas and electric. Co-op city having its own public safety department is better than the city police department in responding to an emergency. There are many people here who seem to think that everything should be for nothing but the increases have been low. The person who gave the first review did not know Co-op City.
