I lived in this building for a year on the 5th floor. I would have to recommend it, despite the high price (this is prospect heights).
I'll start with the cons to get the bad news out of the way first.
1.) The apartments are not in immaculate shape. My appliances all work, my space stays warm, but they don't make an effort to repair simple things like small holes in walls. The shower is a plastic shell fitted inside the bathroom. Expect to see Spackle from your apts previous tenants.
2.) The super is diligent, but very strict. Do your recycling properly
3.) The walls are a bit on the thin side. Now, I have a duplex in the building, and am a musician. I was happy that I never got a noise complaint. But, I could hear my neighbors often when I was lying downstairs in my bed- it sounded like we shared the same wall.
4.) The shower takes a while to heat up
5.) The elevator breaks, but is always fixed promptly (within two days or so)
6.) The front could be more secure.
The cons were really not significant. Now the pros!
AMAZING neighborhood. extremely low crime, right across the street from the police/fire station- you have access to almost every subway, the atlantic terminal mall, close to barclays, and the "infamous" park slope.
The building has BLASTING heat in the winter. This is so much better than having it too cold. If it's too hot, just open a window.
I've never seen any: Bedbugs, roaches, mice/rats. The only things I have are silverfish (who cares) and centipedes (who cares).
Overall, the staff is prompt, the tenants quiet, the area nice, the building good. Just hope you get that raise at work to afford it :-)
