Resident • 2000 - 2008
I've been living @ Queenswood for almost a decade & I too would buy my apartment if it were available. The complex is not perfect (nothing ever is), but it's one of the best places I've ever lived in Queens.
Pros: Excellent maintenance, good security, packages accepted for residents, fully carpeted, a/c units provided, lots of large closets, huge bathroom mirror cabinet, most apartments have cable installation already set, Verizon installed T1 hub if you prefer DSL (although cable is much faster), express & local bus a block away, 2 malls nearby, no pets allowed.
Cons: Expensive (especially parking), neighborhood so-so, no nearby subway, no pets allowed.
Some details on my ratings:
Parking in the lot is nice but it will cost a bundle, outside it's a pain.
Noise in my apartment is minimal, I can only hear people if they talk on the hallway outside my door, my neighbors are friendly & quiet.
Grounds are kept clean & pretty, although this year there's been less flowers.
Safety is excellent, with 24/7 guard. All our locks were recently upgraded.
Construction is cement blocks. My apartment is 10 degrees hotter than outside all year (nice in winter) & I can't hear upstairs neighbors even when they vacuum.
Maintenance is excellent, I've had minor issues over the years, all were fixed immediately.
Staff is friendly & helpful. The security guards & Mike outstandingly so.
Overall I've had no major problems, whenever I've asked for help or complained about anything it's been corrected to my satisfaction. I read some complaining about pest control, so here's my take on that: I've never ever seen mice (or evidence of any being around), we all get fumigated regularly & you can ask for an individual visit at any time. I've seen small roaches once in a blue moon & this is a phobia of mine, so the sight of one means an immediate call for the exterminator, I still think the situation is excellent, especially for NYC. All that said, individual apartments are kept according to their residents' habits & even though we get inspected yearly, I've seen some I'm glad I don't live next to. If you're planning to move here, keep your own place clean & don't skimp on the exterminator services, they're free.
