Resident 2009 - 2011

2/1/2011

I have been living in this apartment complex for 2 years and I have to say that during the first year here, everything was pretty good and I really did not have any complaints. That is until I renewed my lease and began to smell Marijuana smoke in my apartment almost 2 to 3 times a day. I have a young child who lives with me and I was informed by the Management office on the premises that there was an almost constant marijuana smell/smoke entering my apartment and that it was affecting the quality of life for my family. They told me that they would investigate where the smoke was coming from and for me to keep filing report to the security guards on duty. So, almost everyday, and sometimes twice a day I would complain about the smell. This lasted for about 4 months. The security guards were definitely getting tired of the complaints I was making and management seemed as if they were "concerned" about the situation and were "handling" it. So, after 4 months of constantly complaining to management about the Marijuana smell, I did not detect the odor in my apartment. However, a month later, the person began lighting up again, but this time, they would smoke less often but for longer periods during the late evening hours. I again informed management and the guards; and again they informed me that they would look into it. After about 6 months of dealing with this issue, I wanted to know what they were going to do about a permanent solution for my family. They informed me that the tenant only got a "Warning" about the drug usage and that I should continue making reports. So at this point I would have to summarizer that the management doesn't really care about the health and welfare of its tenants so long as they continue to receive rent. Not for nothing, if a tenant was not paying their rent, then they would have done everything in their power to evict the tenant as soon as possible from the premises. However, as long a management continues to collect rent from its tenants, then they could care less whether or not a tenant was making another tenants stay there unbearable. If you are considering staying here, I would reconsider. I had to ask to a transfer from one unit to another to avoid the constant marijuana smell entering my apartment but was informed that I may have to pay additional fees to the property just to transfer, which is unfair. It almost seem like I am being punished for being a good tenant while person who is breaking the law and the lease agreement can do whatever they want at the inconvience other tenants whom also pay their rent.
