Resident 2010 - 2014

5/5/2014

This is my fourth year in Latham Village; I will be moving out when my lease is up only because my boyfriend and I will be moving in together. I have really enjoyed living here. Pros: I have one of the apartments with a dishwasher. The hardwood floors are nice, and they do refinish them before a new tenant moves in (I know bc the rental office occasionally calls to tell you that if you smell something weird, its just floors in a nearby apartment that are being redone). I have an end-unit, and I have been very fortunate that my neighbors are great - very nice and respectful; they generally keep to themselves but are friendly. The washers and dryers actually clean your clothes - I've had the experience at other places that your clothes don't smell clean after you wash them. Maintenance has always been really great for me. I've had few work requests, but they've always fixed everything quickly. I'd say about half of the maintenance crew is very nice and friendly, and the other half is polite but seems rather disgruntled. Snow removal in the winter is pretty good, and they do a great job with lawncare/landscaping in the summer. Plus, you can garden outside of your apartment :) Painting the walls is also allowed, as long as you return the walls to the original white color before you move out. Cons: You can hear the upstairs neighbors walking around, but I don't think this is much different from other apartments, and walking is the worst of it. I don't usually hear talking; however, the exception is that in the bathroom, you may as well be in the same room as your neighbors - you can hear everything. You are not permitted to put your trash out the night before, which can be a pain especially if you have something stinky in it. The windows are a little drafty in the winter; I never found a good way to combat that. Other reviews mention the property manager. Sadly, they're 100% true that she's awful to deal with. I've had a handful of pleasant experiences with her, but the norm is generally that she's rude and won't let you get a word in edgewise. Other office staff have been hit or miss; there seems to be a pretty quick turnover rate for them, probably due to the property manager. Lord knows I wouldn't want to work with her. But, knowing that she is that way and knowing what to expect, I haven't really let it bother me. It doesn't affect the quality of the apartment. I can see how one's experience here could be good or bad, mostly depending on your location and neighbors. If I had bad/loud neighbors, I'd probably hate it here. But I got lucky in that respect, and having an end unit limits your proximity to others. Also, I'm in a building that is relatively close to the laundry center, another big plus. I can imagine it would suck having to truck your laundry around. In addition, I have a lot of grassy space outside my apartment which is nice; I don't think I would like having a middle apartment. Overall, I've had a great experience and I would recommend the place to others.
