My wife and I lived in a junior 1 bedroom for more than 6 years from 1998 to 2004. Initially we thought the inside facing view (wall of another building) was a bad choice. But we soon learned, this unit had limited street noise and concluded it was a good choice. Occasionally we had noisy neighbors but nothing more than what goes with apartment life. It was also pleasantly warm in winter. Management provided optional extermination service for roaches. The neighborhod is excellent and has all the reasons why people love New York. Management is heavy handed and inflexible. Apartment bathrooms were being upgraded throughout the building during several months before I left in December 2004. Tenants were advised they would not have access to their shower for 5 days and were advised to consider using a nearby gym. I left because I took a job north of Boston. That didn't matter to management and they offered no option to exit the lease amicably other than pay the lease until the end or until they found another renter. I rate my experience as a 4 because we liked the building and the neighborhood. However, future tenants should consider the impression they get from management when negotiating the lease.
