Resident • 2012 - 2013
Frequent buses going to and from RIT
Large furnished living spaces
Pool and gym
Discounts at local stores
Price (which is also on the rise)
Contracts are much longer than the school year
Houses are very badly maintained
Thin walls constant parties = Difficulty sleeping on weekends
Staff is unhelpful and greedy
All the rooms are very spacious and the location is convenient, however the expensive price combined with the fact that there is terrible maintenance makes it a less desirable choice for housing. For example when I moved in:
Duct tape was holding the towel rack together
ALL Sinks were clogged
ALL the blinds were bent
Carpets were badly stained and had huge burn marks
Both the main door and closet door to my room were broken
Walls were heavily marked and yellowed (probably due to previous smokers)
I'm pretty sure that nothing beyond a rudimentary check-over was done before it was handed over to me.
The worst problem with these apartments is the staff. They will do anything to get money out of you. The worst offense was at the end of the year when they charged for maintenance. At the end of my leasing period, I received an email stating that I owed approximately $200 for damages. These included charges for the door which was broken when I arrived and charges for painting/patching the walls which were already disgusting. The other tenants and I had indicated these damages in the damage report at the beginning of the year.
The other fees had to do with summer subleases leaving behind trash in the apartment long after I had left. I personally did not have a summer sublease, but others in the house did. I don't blame the staff for charging for this, but they did not listen to what I had to say about it.
After numerous emails trying to clarify the situation they removed some of the charges but eventually threatened to make it a lawsuit.
I'm only writing this review to caution people before moving in. There are better options out there, especially if you have a car. Be careful about who you sign contracts with and be careful about who you move in with. All I can say for certain is that if you're not extremely careful or lucky, Park Point will try to scam you.
