Resident 2017 - 2018

3/11/2019

Convenient place to live if you have a pet, as most apartments on SI are not pet friendly. But beware. Me and my husband had a horrible experience here, namely the heat was not functioning. We called management several times to try to get it repaired, twice some men came to "repair" the heat by opening up the pipes in the radiator to drain it and still it wasn't fixed. Thermometer in my apartment literally read 55 degrees and the maintenance man tells me, "But the heat is working, it's on, I feel it." I know the heat can be turned on because after a few complaints to the city (311) it was nice and warm, but that was only for a few days. It was literally 55 degrees in my apartment all winter, had to use a space heater to survive. We like it warm, so maybe we are a bit crazy, but 55 degrees is ------- cold. We were in a rough place at the time and knew we had my mother's house to go to when we couldn't stand it anymore, and we knew we weren't renting another year, so we didn't want the stress of fighting with them. I encourage everyone who does live here currently to call 311 and file a complaint with the city if your heat's broken--NYC is supposed to fine them $1000s a day, but when we were both at work during the day, the city would come and no one would be home. If we did pursue it further probably could've gotten the city to scare them into fixing it. Again, highly recommend staying away from this place. So many calls to management and they just didn't give a crap that we were living in cold temperatures. It was truly a stressful and demeaning experience. Also, there was one point where one of the buildings across the street from us in the same apartment complex had a major sewage flood in the basement of the building, could smell sewage from a block away. People were living in that building at the time (!) and they took forever to fix it. Can you imagine? Stay away! Other cons are, the walls are pretty thin, could hear everything in the kitchen next door. Also, if you live on the second floor your unit will have ugly carpeting to reduce noise for the downstairs units. Also I'm pretty sure my dog caught fleas from that carpeting, even though we had it professionally cleaned when we moved in. Also, parking sucks, having to walk back to your apartment from blocks away at night sucks. Parking lots close to your unit at a ridiculous monthly charge should be included in the very high rents. Also my hamper got moldy from the moisture from the windows, window frames themselves were moldy. Do not trust the good reviews on here, I think it's some young happy-go-lucky young people who have very low standards for their quality of life. Do not be fooled, like we were, by the relatively clean and modern apartments. Seriously. Look elsewhere.
