Resident 2010 - 2011

10/11/2011

Edit October 11 2011: This is about a year after problems started happening. I have sense moved out (in May) but I figured I should update this. In October or November, the massive amount of rain we had cause flooding in my apartment. (Ground floor). It took maintenance 4 days to get someone out, by that time it smelled horribly of wet carpet and mold. They declined replacing the carpet, and the odor lasted till I moved out. This was only the start. Soon after, every time it rained heavily, this would happen. Eventually, it started happening in my closet where I needed to take everything out of the floor, as they refused to actually fix the problem. Multiple workers who cleaned the carpets and the maintenance man on site said there was a problem with the actual foundation of the building, but I never saw this resolved. Eventually, the water damage in the closet caused the wood along the floor to rot, and once a piece fell out, my entire closet was filled with termites which flooded out of the hole. They had a guy come out quickly for that one and block the hole and spray, yet no one repaired the floor boarding after my request. The final straw came in April. There was always an issue with people leaving the security doors open. Eventually someone finally caused an issue and broke into the laundry rooms. (There is now a key on these doors to my knowledge). The burgular got into the laundry room and drilled through the wall into the apartment across the hall from me (1230 Duck Creek) and robbed that apartment, then from that apartment went into the next through the wall again. I quickly moved out. (http://cincinnati.com/blogs/eyeontheeastside/2011/05/05/drywall-break-ins-escalate-in-tristate/) I admit at first the place was great, but that single bug I saw should have been a sign. The problem got worse as more waterbugs occurred. I never had an issue with Bed Bugs, but multiple tenets reported issues to me. I thought a bug hear and there was normal as this was my first apartment, but my current apartment is miles beyond what this ever was. Whatever you do, do not live here. Edit June 27 2010: Follow up: I'm amazed with this. Lindsey Lane read this post within 24 hours, and by the end of the week my apartment had a new weather strip on the door and was sprayed for bugs. Even though the problem was only minimal before, I have not seen a bug since. Also, since I got my first electricity bill, anyone saying these closet AC's aren't efficient are crazy. I've been running it quite a lot as I am really a 'likes to be cold' guy, and the bill was amazingly low. Thanks Lindsey Lane! I gotta say I enjoy this place. I picked up this apartment after picking up a job and such and moving out for 'real'. I looked at a few places but none really 'sparked' it for me until I saw this place. I admit there's a few issues, however the pros out weigh the cons by far. I'm in a nice little one bedroom. The kitchen is a little small, however it functions to exactly what I need. The garbage disposal was busted when I moved in, and it was quickly replaced to my surprise. The dishwasher is also a welcome surprise. The living room and bedroom sizes are decent and perfect for a tv/gaming/hangout set up, and the patio is a nice little addition. Caution though, if you place the security bar up, as opposed to down, you can easily get locked out. There's also a deal for fiber optic internet and cable through Cincinnati Bell which is quite awesome. The staff has been quite helpful, ranging from getting me moved in to getting me in when locked out due to that nasty little security bar. Many older reviews say that noise is an issue, and while I admit I can hear the dog above me bark from time to time, it's not nearly as bad as an issue as some of these reviews say. Also, the parking (while sometimes near-full late at night) rules are not near as strict as said. The AC system works perfectly, and the over all feeling of my apartment feels like home. There are a few negatives, which I guess I should mention to be fair. In the time I've been here the power has gone out twice (in a 3 week span). However these occurrences were both late at night (past 2am) and were fixed by daylight. Power didn't even go out with the huge storm we had the other night, so that's awesome. I have noticed a slight issue with a few bugs, but it's not bad. I've seen a few water beetles walk into my room from under the front door, but I've fixed this with a towel across the bottom of the door, and plan to ask if I can replace the weather stripping on the bottom of the door. Other than the few negatives I've seen, Lindsey Lane is quite awesome. Hopefully my opinion stays in the coming year. :D!
