Reflections on the Lake
Resident • 2006 - 2007 Not Recommended
I have been living here for about 6 months and it has been a total nightmare. Although the complex has an officer patrolling the area (whom I've never seen), the neighborhood is unsafe. There are police helicopters flying over at least once a week. They have installed alarm systems in each of the apartments, which they recommend you activate for $10/month. The streets have potholes galore - they fixed them once about 4 months ago, but stopped when they ran out of materials. It took them several days to come out and finish the work. The parking lot is littered with broken down cars. The trash bins (at least the one nearest my apartment) is frequently overflowing. There have been two fires in the community and they have made no attempts to fix the buildings. They covered one roof with a tarp, but it came undone during bad weather and they've never attempted to replace it. I believe the only time they replace or upgrade something in your apartment is when it completely stops working. We have called maintenance at least 10 times in the last 6 months. Our water heater broke. They yanked it out one day but didn't replace it until the next day. They left us with out any hot water in the middle of winter! It would have been nice to warn us, but they didn't. We've had cockroaches twice, and have rodents living in our ceilings and walls. We've lost water pressure in our shower twice and they've had to replace the shower head. It makes me wonder what's in our pipes that's casuing this problem. Twice we've had floor boards come up under our carpet. The first time they cut the carpet, then just glued it back down. Less than a week later we had the same problem and had to call twice to get them to come fix it. The second time, they did put a metal strip down the middle of our floor, rather than just glue the carpet down. The insulation in the apartments is awful! It's very expensive to keep these small apartments warm in the winter. It's equally hard to keep them cool in the summer. The air conditioning units are old, and don't work well. There are lots of windows, so the heat beats down in the summer and the cold blasts through in the winter. The outdoor stairs are made of cement and are chipping away. There is only one big light to illuminate the stairwell. The one nearest my apartment has gone out twice and remaind out for at least 3 or 4 days each time. Some apartments are parallel with 71 and the traffic noise is horrible. The bedroom windows face the interstate, less than 50 yards away. Hopefully, you are a sound sleeper. So far this winter, they haven't shoveled any walkways.
