Resident 2015 - 2016

4/21/2016

I lived here in 1997 when it was called "Village Park of Fairfield" and after moving out of state and back again, needed a "transition" place until we bought a house. We found ourselves back here, after swearing the place off. Back then, the management was HORRID and didn't give a crap about their residents. Since this place was literally 6 minutes from my job, I gave it another shot. I've been here 6 months so far and overall, I'm quite pleased. I have a 2bdr apartment on the "Gilmore" side of the complex. There are two distinct styles of apartments, as this was originally 2 separate complexes that they bought and combined 20+ years ago. On the Route 4 side, they're more "boxy" traditional style buildings and on the Gilmore side they're structurally different. Anyway, the apartment I moved into was nicer than the model they showed. The kitchen had been upgraded (granite-like countertops, black appliances including dishwasher) and even though this is quite possibly the smallest kitchen in this history of the world, it's fine for now. Nancy in the office is fabulous and has always gotten me an answer quickly when I needed one. The other girls are iffy. My only issue so far has been with maintenance. In the dead of winter, my furnace started acting up. It would kick on and TRY to light 6, 7, 8 times in a row before igniting and heating the place. Since the utility closet is literally right across from your bedroom door, it woke me up each time it kicked on - over and over and over. I called about it and while they came the next day (and left the little notice), NOTHING had changed. I called again --- and again --- I talked to one of the girls in the office and she said, "Well, I live here too. It's totally normal. It's doing it because it's really cold out." WHAT? This chick was half my age and I said to her, "Look, I've been a homeowner and I've had a few furnace issues in my day. You cannot tell me that a furnace TRYING to kick on 7 or 8 times before succeeding is NORMAL." She then went on to say that "If it will make you feel better, I'll send someone out." UH YEAH, it would make me feel better. To make a long story short (which includes me calling emergency maintenance at 1am because I had no heat), they fixed it on the 4th or 5th visit. I mean, I think it's fixed. It's warm out now and I don't use it. Who knows. What others have said about the noise is true. In the building I'm in, there are 4 apartments and the strange thing is, the walls are soundproof but the floors are not. So I can't hear my neighbors next door (we share a living room wall and they play their TV LOUD), but I can hear the woman below me talking on the phone, peeing, I hear her TV/stereo whatever. I can also smell whatever she cooks and smokes down there, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. The most recent noise issue is that they installed door closers on the front door to the building and now when people come in and out, it's KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM all day/night long. That kinda sucks. I don't bother doing the laundry at the Laundry Center on premises...because the couple times I've been there, lazy rude tenants will leave their clothes in a washer/dryer all damn day. I should take them out and toss them on the floor, but I'm nice and just go to the laundromat down the street. The upside is they maintain the outside of the property very well. They just mulched the flower beds and keep the trash picked up that lazy residents toss around. They also installed new carpeting in the common area of our building. So the bottom line is, it's apartment living....you have to adjust. Yes, my neighbor leaves at 6am and must boom his stereo from the minute he gets in the car, and when the weather is nice, you hear dogs barking outside...but it could be worse.
