Resident 2007 - 2008

4/24/2008

I have lived in apartments all my life. There are always ups and downs. However, now that we are moving to Columbus, I'm starting to realize that the reviews on this website can be extremely helpful in making our decision. Below I've listed some reasons why I did not enjoy my stay at Perry Lake Village apartments. 1) Maintenance. Immediately when we moved in, maintenance had fixed some of the grout work on the tub (per our request). Not only did they do a horrible job with it, but the chemicals they used tarnished the facet in the tub. When they came back to replace this piece, they installed one that did not have the lever which turns on the shower!!! How do you miss that?!? They also tried to fix a water leak by spraying this expanding insulation foam around the roof of our balcony. Apparently water was leaking in to the apartment below us. The insulation foam (which I'm pretty sure is the cheapest way to fix this problem) is a horrible orange, and it was carelessly sprayed all over our balcony. The people living below us said that maintenance used their towels to partially clean up the mess! 2) Horrible windows. One other person mentioned this in their review. The windows here are the worst I've ever dealt with. You can literally feel gusts of cold air coming in through the cracks around the windows and balcony door. Our heating costs were near $300 a month in the winter. Insulate them yourselves if you decide to live here! 3) Dog poop. I understand that when you live in an apartment complex that allows dogs, you're going to have to deal with a few careless owners. However, my girlfriend and I like to take walks around the complex, and it seems as if EVERY owner does not clean up after their dogs. There are doggy bags available, however no one uses them. It is a disgusting mess! 4) Noise. We have had issues with almost all of our neighbors. One of our neighbors was wrestling (yes full-on wrestling) at 5:00am one night. Another neighbor consistently bangs on the walls. We have had picture frames knocked down because of it. The people below us have a dog which barked non-stop when they weren't home. After complaining to them three times they finally got one of those anti-dog barking collars which worked to some degree. 5) Misc. Just a couple of minor annoyances is management changing the way you pay for rent. Instead of being able to just walk down to the office to drop of your rent check, you now have to mail it to the WhiteHurst company. I just find this annoying. There was also a pine tree which had fallen during the winter. It JUST now was removed (three months later). The rent is cheap and the apartments layouts aren't too bad. We enjoyed having a full kitchen which is something you rarely find in apartments of this price. But overall, it wasn't the greatest experience.
