Resident 2007 - 2008

1/23/2009

I moved to Toledo in 2007 and was looking for a cheap place to rent with a friend. The Riviera Maia seemed like the perfect place; I mean who could beat $405 a month rent for a 2 bedroom? Everything was fine for the first few months. When we had rain, it would end up in our dining room. We had tupperware placed on the floors everywhere. Maintenance was called but never came. In early November we noticed mold growing on the ceiling in our bathroom. There are no exhausts so we all took a shower with the window open. Turned out, the mold was black mold and was just not on the ceiling, but in corners of the shower, behind the toilet, and even on the walls. We called maintenance and asked for them to come up. Their explanation was that WE had to try to take care of it ourselves. So we got some bleach and literally bleached every inch of the bathroom. It went away for about a month. Then came right back. The windows were not at all what they claim. These 'new' windows constantly leaked. Once again, we had to get out the bleach and scrub the window sills and even the top. There was constantly moisture sitting there. Once all the mold came back and we called maintenance again they still did not do anything about it. Finally they came - with paint. Our toilet was always leaking because it was cracked in the back and ran up our water bill. We put towels down when we took a shower and that water always ended up on them. You couldn't get the stench out no matter how many times you washed them. The halls constantly smelled like smoke and the trash cans were never emptied. People would put their own trash bags in there, being too lazy to walk to the dumpster, and they would stay there for weeks. Cars would sit on the street for weeks at a time, untouched, taking up parking spaces. The main doors were constantly left open and people would put large sticks in them leaving them open for someone else. Strangers were constantly walking in and out. The back door was broken and wouldn't lock. The people below us had a child who screamed from 9 at night until 4 in the morning. They always yelled and it seemed like they were in the next room. When the cable guy came, we discovered we weren't 'cable-ready' as they claim. He had to drill holes between the living room and a bedroom, and then the bedroom closet into another bedroom. We had to run a cablecord all the way through with connectors just so we could get cable in all 3 rooms, leaving it very unattractive and laying out that everyone would step on. In the bedrooms there was a large crack about an inch from the ceiling that stretched from one side to the other. Our water heater was very loud. I couldn't sleep through it because it was in my room. Our furnace was constantly running. We would shut it off and ten minutes later it would come back on and blast heat for about 5 minutes. That definitely ran up our gas bill. Needless to say, we all got out before our lease was up. I would not reccommend this place to ANYONE!
