Resident 2003 - 2007

Great place to live, especially for the price

I have lived at the Cedars for about four years and have never had any major problems outside of normal apartment annoyances that happen at even the most expensive complexes. The apartment is perfectly sized for any college student. Another plus about the apartment, for me at least, is that I was always able to study at home without being disturbed. Very rarely I would hear my neighbors playing music, but I would just go next door and ask them to turn it down and they would. Moreover, I rarely even saw my neighbors at all. The apartments are definitely not new; however, the management has taken steps to take care of appliances and windows in the units. I will be moving from the Cedars in March and I am hopeful that my new apartment in a different city will be as good as mine here at the Cedars.

PROS
*In my four years here, I never once spotted any type of vermin in my apartment. The management was great about sending a company to come and spray the units on a regular basis.

*Whenever something broke, maintenance was always at my door within thirty minutes, regardless of the date or time.

*It is not a long drive from The Cedars to the Duck Pond parking lot at OU. I was always able to leave 20 minutes before my class started and be 5 minutes early to class. Also, the Cedars is close to the shopping center at 12th and Alameda and Wal-Mart on 12th.

*There is ample parking at the Cedars and the parking lot is relatively lit. I have never heard of a car getting broken into here.

*It generally felt like I was living in the entire building alone. As I said earlier, I rarely heard or even saw my neighbors.

CONS
*I suppose the location might be considered a con. The Cedars is in a so-called 'bad' area of Norman; however, there are brand new townhouses going in to the lot north of the Cedars that are renting for $900/mo., so the area might be moving up a little. In my time here, I have never felt uncomfortable in my complex and have come and gone at all hours without any fear of the area. Moreover, I have never seen or heard any major incident taking place.

*The pool area can be quite loud in the summer because teens from the neighboring Section 8 complexes come over to swim and can be overly loud. I would say that the loud kids at the pool happened maybe five or six times a month in the summer at the most. Usually, the pool is being unused.

*In the summer, a lawn crew comes every Thursday and mows at 8AM. This isn't a problem for any tenants working 9-5 jobs, but for a student that can sleep until 10 or so, it is a minor annoyance. I was always able to fall back asleep, though.

All in all, I highly recommend the Cedars. Even the 'cons' listed were never that bad. I feel like the Cedars was a home more than just an apartment. The rates are a value, the apartments are clean, and the complex is peaceful. Finally, there are a ton of empty apartments in this place that it is possible to talk them down from their initial special move-in offer.
