Review

English Village North is an OK place to live. The apartments are very basic-no dishwasher, no central air conditioning, garbage disposal, etc. The complex itself has no pool, exercise facilities, club room, or other amenities. There is a laundry room with 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. Furthermore, the complex is showing its age to a certain extent. When I moved in the apartment hadn't been cleaned very well-there were dead roaches in some of the drawers and other spots, dirt/debris on floors, the walls clearly hadn't been painted, etc. This extended to the maintenance of the apartments. I had some problems (only one major) and all of the problems with the exception of the major one were not corrected. To a certain extent this is understandable-these apartments are rather inexpensive and the attitude seems to be "What do you expect?". I didn't have any problems with any of the other tenants in this complex; however, the places across the street seem to attract sketchy acting tenants and their friends. The worst thing about these apartments, in my opinion, is that there is only one small window air conditioner in the 1 bedrooms, and this is barely sufficient to cool the bedroom. I was basically living in just my bedroom during summer because the living room/kitchen would get up into the 90's. Although I think this is partially related to one of the "minor" problems that wasn't fixed, I think it still would been very uncomfortable in that part of the apartment even if the problem had been corrected. The best thing about the apartment it the fact that I didn't have any bug problems (ironically, there was plenty of evidence of an earlier roach infestation-dead roaches and roach droppings-but I never saw any live ones). The kitchen was also a plus-lots of room and cabinets. The bedroom is smaller than what I seen elsewhere to accommodate this. The bathroom is a decent size with the sink separated form the toilet/tub. You do have to go through the bedroom to get to it, however. Overall, these are basic, livable apartments. However, I am much happier paying a $75 more a month to get a much nicer place.
