Resident 2012 - 2013

8/20/2013

This place is very so, so. I've lived here for about a year and have gone through two management changes and a few other problems. Here's a few things: 1. Management is nice but is NEVER in the office. If you need to talk to them one on one, good luck. There is always a sign up that says 'will return at 1:30pm', you come back 15mins after that time, still not there. Come back 30mins later, sign says 'Will return at 10am'. And guess what kids, they won't be there. It's best to call the office, leave a message and set up an appointment if you want to get anything across to them. 2. The neighbors around me are nice. Only problem I have is the one's across the way. Every night, I feel like they come home, blaring their music at 2am to compensate for something. No one cares you just got back from the club, no one cares about your Camero. All I care about, is sleeping before my 12hr shift tomorrow. I have no fuks to give and yell at them to turn it down. 3. The walls are pretty thin. You can hear just about anything outside and sometimes even next door. I had short term neighbors that were horrid because they would play the same song for hours on end and argue and another who got a new puppy that barked constantly when they weren't there. 4. This place is primarily populated with dogs. If you're not a dog person, I wouldn't recommend it here. 70% of the owners are very nice and care for their dogs. There is a designated field you walk them to to do their business. Sometimes, the dogs will pee in the grass or something but I don't really have a problem with number 1. It's #2. On occasions I see people letting their dogs poop in the grass near other peoples apartments and leave it there. Sometimes my dog can't wait and poops there but I pick it up. I don't want to step on it as much as the next person. The other 30% are jerks. They glare at you when you're walking your dog to the park, sometimes when their dog is off the leash, they get mad at YOU for showing up. I've met a few people that have their dog off the leash but they also have their dog in check or it's a puppy or very sweet. My dog will have no problem protecting himself if need be and I have no problem bashing in a dogs head if they attack mine. However, I shouldn't be on guard when I take my dog to do his business. 5. Haven't really ran into any crime. Only incident was a couple of guys went into an unoccupied apartment and messed it all up. Punched holes in walls, did drugs and all kinds of crap. Only reasons I know is because a friend of mine that lives next to it said it felt like someone was bombing the damn place. Only reason they got in, is because maintenance didn't lock the door. I'm sure there was some job openings later that week. Another ------- moment was when a company was redoing the carpet in an apartment, discarded a cigarette into the chimney. It would have been all and well if the fire had a place to go except for back into the apartment. 6. The apartments are OLD and need to be renovated. BADLY. My roommate lives up in the loft and anytime she moves around up there, there is this horrid creaking noise. Not to mention the kitchen floor and bathroom floor is caving in. Basically, they need to redo the floors. The kitchen is terribly designed. When we first moved in, there was no fridge and it wouldn't even fit into the kitchen. They had to haul it over the damn counter. Half the cabinet space is inaccessible unless you are 6ft and over, so don't get too excited when you see it. 7. Maintenance is slooooowwwwww. Nice but slower than a frozen sloth. Our heater was broken in the middle of winter for 4 days. It was ridiculous. We called everyday so we can get someone out. I went to stay at a friend's dorm because it was so damn cold, I couldn't even write my damn paper. Our dryer has been shitastic since we've moved in. You can only dry in super small loads. I put in 4 work orders for it, never got done so I just adapted. In a nutshell, this place is livable if you are a tolerable and patient person. It's cheap, affordable and convenient. There's a Washer/Dryer in the apartment with a dishwasher. Pretty much the only thing I was looking for. Bus stop across the street (if you don't drive), Homeland in walking distance, Several gas stations, $2 movie theater ($1 on Tuesdays) in walking distance. Police station is about 5-10min away, and fire department even closer. Several places to eat and the mall is about 10min away as well as a Walmart. Dollar tree and 2 liquor stores nearby along with a USPS drop box. Me and my roommate only pay $300 each a month.
