Resident 2011 - 2013

10/17/2013

I had an overall good two and half years living at Walker's Station. Can't complain, landscaping was very well kept up, my work orders always got taken care of. My problem began when we moved out in Aug. of 2013. I spent two days cleaning the apartment. I dusted ceiling fans, cleaned the fireplace, scrubbed the carpet and steam cleaned it, cleaned all kitchen appliances, I even moved the fridge and cleaned the floor underneath, wiped all the shelves down in the closets, bleach the bathrooms, cleaned the windows, and wiped down all the walls and floor boards. During the walk through the office manager Kayla Raney assured me that I would receive my deposit back. She mentioned that the carpet would need to be replaced due to the amount of time we lived there and wear and tear but I won't be charged for it. Instead of a check I received a notice that they will retain my deposit and asked for additional payment for a total charge of $458.60. When I called her to ask what happened she said that the General Manager Barbra Stone made that decision and they replaced the carpet in the entire building. During my time there I had 3 separate occasions where there was water damage. The notice stated that the carpet was worn and stained. I contacted an Attorney on the matter and I am still disputing this. I would like to contact the Owner Tom DeJonghe, who resides in California, but the office isn't allowed to give any contact information for him. I have obtained an email address from a previous residence and have emailed him regarding my dispute. Kayla has wrote a response to my demand for my deposit stating that she isn't allowed to discuss deposits with tenants. She makes note that since six people (four of which are small children) that it isn't asking to much for us to pay partial fee for new carpet. This is normal wear and tear! I have also contacted other previous residence who this same thing has happened to them. I plan to take this matter to court if it isn't resolved. The pictures I have attached are of the apartment during the walk through.
