cheap, quality depends on individual apartment

I think your opinion of this complex depends largely on which individual apartment you rent. I got one of nicer apartments at this complex. Mine has a fireplace and everything's in fairly decent shape on the inside. There are a few cracks in the walls, but not too bad. The carpet is nice, and so are bathroom facilities. The kitchen cabinets don't close exactly perfectly but aren't horrible either. I've been happy with the quality of my particular apartment.

I have seen other apartments at this complex that I would refuse to live in. I looked at another 2-bed, 2-bath apartment here that had thin carpet with burns in it as well as beat-up kitchen and bathroom cabinets and counters. I've seen several 2-bed 1-bath apartments here that were nice enough but somehow just looked a little cheap. Nothing really wrong, but not especially nice. The quality seems to vary a lot from unit to unit, so make sure you see the particular unit you would be renting before you sign.

Benchmark Properties just hired a new manager for the Lift a few months ago. She is doing a fabulous job. She doesn't take any nonsense from people (aka she's not a pushover), but she will definitely work with you. She's straightening out some of the problems around here that people have complained about in the past. One particular example of a problem she's tackling aggressively is pet feces on the grounds from people not taking their dogs out to the adjacent fields for bathroom breaks. If you are one to be lazy about that you might not be happy, though, as she's straightening out that problem by assessing fines to people she catches.

The parking lot is not very nice. There are large potholes in the pavement that you have to avoid if you don't want to take your car into the shop every few months. There is not very good lighting in the parking lots, and I do make it a point to watch around me all the time when I'm out in it at night. I'm not seriously concerned for my safety, but there is just enough of an uneasiness to make me stay aware.

The exterior of the buildings is poor. They were built back in the 70s or something, and they are definitely starting to fall apart. There is moss growing on the shingles, and some shingles are missing. There are cables just drooping from one tack to another so that they hang down half the height of the building instead of being neatly secured. Not pretty.

The maintenance service varies. I have personally had pretty good service from everyone except the painter they use. When I first moved in my apartment had to be repainted. I was told the painter would be by to repaint my walls one day, so I made it a point to stay home and even boarded my animals so they'd be out of the way, but not until several days later did he actually get over to do it. Then he missed some spots, and I got tired of waiting for him to come back, so I just asked for some paint and said I'd do it myself. It took weeks of me reminding them to get that bit of paint. As far as other maintenance goes, I've personally been pretty happy. I've known other tenants who say they've had delays in requested maintenance though.

The price is great. In Stillwater, where most places rob you blind for a tiny bit of space, this is a pretty good deal on getting floor space for a reasonable price. In my personal case, I am happy with the inside and happy enough with the maintenance for the money I am paying, so as long as I ignore the outside of the building and the environment I am happy. My lease is coming up soon, and I haven't decided if I'm going to move or not. There are definitely nicer places around Stillwater, but I'm not sure if it's worth paying the huge extra price tag that goes with it.
