The good and the bad...

I have rented at Westbrook for over a year and here is the good and the bad The good: it is in a good part of town that is not nearly as busy as the eastern side of the city. Only down side is there are not many eating establishments out here, but the Wal-Mart on this side of town is so much nicer and cleaner than the other one. They do keep the grass cut and spray each apartment building about every three months for bugs. I have never had more than a few spiders or the occasional cricket to deal with. And, for Stillwater, the rent is fairly cheap (although they just raised it some) and they do allow animals (just be careful where you step if you walk in the grass!!). I have never had a problem getting a parking space right outside my building either. The bad: they have posted "quiet hours" but they only way they have to enforce them is for YOU to call the police if it's after hours. They did finally evict one extremely noisy neighbor, but it took months of complaining by me and all my other neighbors. And if you live on the bottom floor, have fun listening to every single step your upstairs neighbor takes. Also, there are several non-smoking buildings onsite, but they don't actually tell you that when you come in to look at apartments or sign a lease, so you have no idea until they assign you an apartment. If you happen to live in a smoking building and any of your neighbors smoke, be prepared to have your apartment constantly smell like a bar. So, if you're looking at these apartments, and want a non-smoking one, you'd better ask them about it when you come in to look. The laundry facility here is simply disgusting. The one and only time I used it, there were no chairs to sit in, and there was trash everywhere, including a used condom on the floor! I felt like I needed to re-wash my clothes when I got done! Now I take my laundry clear across town to a nice, clean laundromat when I have to do it. And, they advertise the place as having air conditioning, but that's only half correct. In the fall, once they light the furnaces, you can no longer use your air conditioner; so on those frequent Oklahoma winter days when it gets up to 80 or 90, be prepared to sweat. They don't turn the furnaces off until it's consistently above 75, so you're pretty much without AC for about 6 months out of the year. I complained about it once and was told that I could purchase ceiling fans at my own expense and they would install them, but the ceiling fans would have to remain here once I vacated. And of course, that's IF you can get maintenance to come in and install them for you. It takes them weeks to fix anything that isn't an "emergency". I will say that the couple of times I've had emergency maintenance situations, they did come out right away, even after hours, but if it's not an emergency, good luck waiting. Overall, it's not an absolutely horrible place to live (there are many others that are far worse in Stillwater) if you're willing to put up with some crap.
