Resident 2009 - 2010

9/5/2010

Initially, we were very pleased with this apartment when we moved in early 2009. I really liked the two bedroom town home floor plan and there is plenty of space for a couple with no kids. However, as time passed this apartment and the problems with the staff got far worse. First of all, we have had several big issues with our apartment that required some serious maintenance. The first one was a large hole in the second bedroom that happened because some of the floor boards had rotted and broken. It took maintenance 3 visits to fix this hole and their solution was to place a board that didn't fit on top of the hole, which now makes the floor stick up and hurts to walk on. The carpet around this section was never correctly fixed and began to fray at the edges. Second, a leak had formed in our upstairs bathtub which was dripping into the kitchen ceiling. This problem took nearly 9 visits in all, and I had to keep calling to let them know that the problem was still not fixed. There are many times where I have called for maintenance issues and had them ignored or improperly fixed. Recently I called because a leak had formed in the floor from the AC pipe and instead of fixing it, the man wrote "floor is dry" and left. Two days later, the leak was so bad, they had to rip up the carpet at this location and place a blower. I had to call the office after 3 days to remind them to pick the blower up. After waiting 3 weeks for them to remove a hornet s nest from my balcony, and them never showing up, I was forced to do it myself before it got worse. After I had given my 30 days notice of leaving the complex, I had an issue with my dishwasher. Every time I ran a load of dishes the front panel would smoke and smell like it was on fire. The very first time this happened, I notified the office immediately (within 5 minutes) and it took over 2 hours to send an emergency maintenance person to my apartment. After waiting on their decision about the dishwasher for 5 days and not getting a single follow up call, I ran it again with the same result. Again, I notified the office immediately and it still was not taken care of in a timely manner. I became so frustrated after 12 days without a functioning dishwasher that I sent a letter to Case & Associates corporate office and a copy to Boulder Ridge. It still took 3 more days to get a new dishwasher installed and no one from the corporate office every contacted me back. It appears that management for Case & Associates overall just doesn't care. In the 18 months we have lived here, this complex has had 3 different managers. I would advise to get everything in writing. We were told when we toured AND when I signed the lease that if we painted the walls, we would be supplied with the correct paint to paint them back. Now, because that manager is no longer here, of course, that is not the case. We have to pay for the paint ourselves. Parking at this complex in the buildings around the pool is extremely horrible. If you get home later than 4 pm, you must park on the opposite end of the complex and walk to your apartment, every day. They take no consideration for parking needs. There are at least 2 cars which do not run and have been parked in the same place for over 8 months but they have never been asked to move for residents who need that parking. The neighbors here started out okay but as time has gone on, have become more and more questionable. I have had to call the police at least twice for overhearing domestic abuse at this complex. My boyfriend and I have both had items stolen off of our cars in the parking lot (like my antenna and his spare tire). A result of the cheap rent and no background check. The apartments themselves have numerous maintenance issues because they seem to be so old. The windows are foggy and thin. The appliances are horrible. My dishwasher leaked every time I ran it and only one burner on the stove worked correctly. The floors upstairs are very squeaky. It was hard for us to keep up with calling maintenance on all of the various problems we had. Though it may seem ludicrous, I feel like we were purposely treated badly after we had given our 30 day notice to leave. Not only was our dishwasher not fixed for 15 days, but we had a vacancy slip placed in our mailbox while we were still living there causing all of our mail to be displaced for two weeks. The apartment claims that the post office is responsible for placing these slips, but the post office would not know a vacancy unless told by the office. Also, I lived at a Case & Associates property prior to living at Boulder Ridge and had the same pets then and as I did here. At that first property, upon move out, I was given back my entire deposit and thanked for cleaning. I was just notified by Boulder Ridge that they would be keeping my entire deposit to fix one spot on the floor that had a pet smell . I don't believe fixing one section of carpet is cause for keeping nearly $200 from someone who put up with so much while living at these apartments. I kept my place clean and paid my rent on time every month. I would never, ever, ever recommend that anyone live at Boulder Ridge "Luxury" Apartments. It will only bring you frustration and you ll never be valued as a resident.
