Resident 2003 - 2004

7/20/2005

The only good thing about this place is that it's close to WinCo and the bus line. Other than that it sucks. Here goes....This place cannot keep a manager. My sister and I were there for a year and we had 3 to 4 different ones. The only good one left after a month, in my opinion because he stood up for the residents and wanted to fix rotting decks and replace 1970s carpet and the owner didn't like that. On to the serious stuff.
First our dishwasher broke. It was leaking huge amounts of water every time we used it. We had to put down four towels and they were all sopping when the cycle was done. It took them 3 MONTHS to get that thing fixed because the fix it guy, Lloyd, "only works a few mornings a week". This is bull crap because we saw his van all the time at all different times of day. My sister and I were uncomfortable with him being in our apartment with us not home and the managers were offended by that. It wasn't until we signed a paper saying he could go in if we weren't there that it got fixed...that same day. But by that time the linoleum in the kitchen had started to wrinkle from all the water even though most of the time we were doing dishes by hand. Oh, and supposedly part of the reason it took so long is because Ali, the owner, refuses to buy anything new and was looking for a used washer to replace ours with. This would explain why one of the bedrooms still had the disgusting 1970s carpet...it hadn't reached it's point of disentegration yet.
During the winter our apartment was infested with worms. Yes, worms. We called the managers frantic one night after one fell on my head and we spotted a bunch on the ceiling in the kitchen. He came over and was very unconcerned. He told us they probably came from the trees outside and that eventually they'd all turn into moths so until then we should just vacuum them up whenever we found some and get rid of all our food in the cupboards. What a jerk. It took seriously two months before they were all gone and when I moved again the next September there were still random ones in the cat food and stuff. It was disgusting.
Most of the decks in that place are rotten. My sister almost fell through one spot and when we went out on it it would wobble like crazy. I wouldn't let my husband come out on it with me because I was afraid we'd crash through and die. They would replace random decks but never ours. THe last time I drove by there in June the same rotten deck was still there.
The only time anything was fixed was when Jeff, the good manager was there. He replaced the burnt out bulbs in the lamps in the parking lot that had been out for months, trimmed the shrubs, etc. Otherwise, the grass is patchy or non-existent, the shrubs are overgrown, the lamps need paint, the parking lot curbs need to be replaced, the bottom of the pool was damaged by an aftershock from an earthquake last summer and it turned into a gigantic sludge of algae because the owner didn't want to pay to get it fixed. Last summer was one of the hottest ever and that totally pissed me off to not be able to use the pool especially while they were still claiming to have one in their advertisements.
Our neighbor lady was disgusting. She had a mentally disabled daughter and was constantly screaming at her, even when she was on the toilet. (Our bathrooms were back to back) The neighbor was very overweight and would hardly ever take out the trash. Instead she would let it collect in her apartment until the stench got too bad for inside and then she'd just set all the bags (as in 8-10 at a time) outside her door. So then we had to walk through a swarm of flies to get to our apartment until she finally took them out. We were on the 2nd floor and I guess the stairs were too much for her. She also had multiple cats which made her apartment stink and she'd let their cat food rot outside which also attracted flies. It sucked.
As for the inside of the apartments, the cabinetry is old, dark and depressing in the kitchen and bathroom. Each apartment is a toss up as to what has been replaced and what hasn't because a total rehaul would be too expensive. At one point our hot water knob in the bathroom was leaking, it took them a few weeks to fix it and our electric bill went up by $40 that month because we were paying to heat all that dripping water.THe only rooms that have overhead lighting are the kitchen, bathroom and dining area. Other than that you better invest in a bunch of torch lamps or something because there aren't many windows and it's pretty dark all day. The fireplace was nice to have but it doesn't give out any heat, it's only for looks. Also, the insulation is not very good. I could hear our downstairs neighbors beating their kids and getting trashed all the time and had to call the cops. (Point being: a lot of undesirable people live there) The complex is also built right next to Walnut and anyone who knows Corvallis knows that that section of road is unexplainable bumpy so all you hear at night is the thunk-thunk-thunk of cars going by. FInally, the windows are old and crappy and did not keep heat in well at all and the apartment was unbearably hot in the summer. So, obviously my recommendation is a big fat NO. It's not worth the stress and misery of dealing with that place just to get cheap rent.
