My wife and I moved in after we got married. It was conveniently located by the bus line, I-5, and other major roads. But the nightmare has never ended since the day we signed the lease.
We've been here for almost two years, but once our lease is out we're packing up and getting out. In those two years, the apartments have been through six different managers, each one more incompetent and less caring than the last. When we first moved in there was a maintenance man that made sure the apartments were kept up and grounds looked nice. Now, the maintenance man is fat and slow at getting done with anything. All of the grounds keeping is done now by an outside company, which does hardly more than blow around any loose leaves on the ground. There is trash in all of the bushes that has been there since Fall of 2010. Management is never around to do anything anyway - they split between two locations, and only work four days a week for two hours at a time. No one responds to messages and there is never a record that any maintenance is ever requested or processed.
For instance, just after we moved in we found cockroaches! We called management for four months before they got exterminators to come out. Then, when the first attempt didn't get rid of them, it took another few months to get a second exterminator to come out. They made claims that the exterminators came and took care of the problem, yet we were home during the time they said it took place and no one ever showed up.
They claim to have assigned parking, but to be truthful the whole parking lot is nothing more than a junk yard - everyone parks wherever they want (including sometimes in the middle of the parking lot blocking traffic in or out) and have three or four cars a piece. Most of them are broken with flat tires and expired tags. The contract states that cars of this nature will be towed, but once again, in the two years we've been here, nothing has ever been done about it.
There are no noise restrictions. Our neighbors from all directions are usually loud and obnoxious until two in the morning. There is nothing but yelling going on between all of them and they hang out in the entry and stair ways constantly thumping in and out without a care for anyone else. Once again, management does nothing to enforce policy of any kind.
The apartments themselves are in terrible disarray. The paint started coming off of the walls only weeks after we had been there. We told management about it and they tried to make us pay to have it redone stating that they had refinished the apartment before we moved in and that we must have done something to cause it to fall apart like that. Most of the electrical outlets don't work and are coming out of the walls. The light fixture in the dining room only works part of the time. The thermostat is so unpredictable that one day you could set the temp to be at 55 degrees (F) and when you wake up you'll be sitting in sub freezing conditions. Move the same thermostat to 60 degrees, and the whole apartment will be baking like an oven. The shower area is continually leaking and causing damage to the walls around it and to the neighbors below us.
The management are the worst people to deal with. We haven't had a single one even show a hint of caring towards anyone in the complex. They're never around to get a hold of, it takes them weeks to return any phone messages, there is no organization to their office or their files of any kind. We tried to talk with them about an issue in our apartment only a few months after moving in, they went to their files and told us that they had record or copy of a lease of any kind stating that we lived there. We had to sign an additional contract with them since they lost the first one that we filled out, but setting it to the date of signing for that day, rather than when we first signed the lease, extending our contract.
Our contract is over with shortly, but we've been making preperations for months to get out of here the moment we can. I dust my feet of this place.
