Resident 2016 - 2019

These reviews are fake, do not be fooled. You will regret signing a lease at Highland Gardens. If you absolutely have no options, sign a month-to-month lease, but I would honestly recommend sleeping in a shelter than dealing with this property management company. This place was a dream when it was owned by Oxford Realty, but when Half Penny Management purchased the property, it completely went to hell. Get used to speaking to the leasing offices answering machine. Any maintenance request will be completed a month later, and with the thoroughness of a a toddler. We literally had a fly infestation in our apartment foyer for months (I lived in the most expensive apartments by the way) and after daily complaints from all the residents, nothing was done to rectify the problem. Maintenance would reply weeks later basically stating they had no solution. The staff are extremely rude, and although you're given parking passes, somehow theres never available parking. There are two dumpters assigned to roughly 200 residents, and good luck climbing through the constant mountain of old furniture to throw your trash out. I'm not one to write reviews but I would be doing a disservice to anyone considering… See More>

I lived at Highland Gardens for about 3 1/2 years. I lived in both the newer and older buildings and enjoyed each immensely. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Anything that I needed was fixed promptly and the property manager was always attentive and available for any problems or questions that arose. The complex is well maintained and is in a great location in the west end of Allentown. Its beautiful and safe neighborhood.

        so so

it wasn't bad for the price at the time. we lived on the third floor of one of the older buildings. one problem we had was with centipedes... they seemed to be everywhere and just came out from the walls. the other problem we had was with the heat- in the winter on the third floor we had to have the windows open because of how hot it used to get in there.

          Horrible Managment!!!!!

We lived here for a year, the maintainance man Matt was awesome and deserves a raise, However when we were up to renew our lease we asked to pay for a month beyond our lease date because i was working out of town and dident think we were going to stay. When we decided to renew our lease they said no and told us the apartment was rented as well was everything else and we HAD to move out. I moved out to our new apartment overnight. the manager made fun of us the next day and said rude things to my wife. We ended up getting the property company involved. the worst part is the complex has open apartments everywhere!!!!!!!!! We still have our garage there but thats it! THESE PEOPLE ARE GARBAGE! its sad because the apartment was nice and big and probably the greatest deal you will find in allentown, if you can afford the extra money move in to trexler park apartments down the road.

            Highland Gardens

My experience here has been great. I've lived here for two and a half years. It is pleasant, quiet, and clean. The manager is good natured, and Matt, the maintenance guy, is great. He is polite, hard working, and has always responded to my issues immediately. I am baffled that other people have had such negative experiences.

              Getting very dirty and noisy

I've lived at Highland Gardens for the past 5 years and it's been nice up until the past year or so. Now the outside doors are filthy, the windows next to the doors are covered in dirt. My upstairs neighbors come and go at all hours of the night, slamming doors and pounding up and down the stairs. There seems to be no limit to how many people can live in a two bedroom apartment. Despite several complaints, nothing has changed. Parking is a misery with people who don't live in my building parking on the sidewalk behind our narrow parking spots which make it difficult to maneuver out without hitting something. Again, despite complaints, nothing changes. Also, the floors creak in every room. They creak over my head, and I'm sure they creak over my neighbor's downstairs when I walk around. Also no high speed internet, and the light switches at the doorways switch NOTHING. Apparently they were never connected to anything.

                slumlord

I have maintanance issues that I've asked for help with multiple times and no one has responded. Finally, I gave up. Also, I heard from some of my neighbors (I wasn't home) that one night the fire alarm went off one night all night and no one from the building responded to the calls to maintenance. Nice.
Need to replace windows. Come on owner...spend some money keeping this place from turning into a slum, as is already starting to happen.

                  Not worth it anymore

We moved into Highland in 2004. Rent was decent for the newer apartments. Central air, deck, garbage disposal, washer/dryer. Then the following year, they jacked up the rent. Now, in 2006, same thing. Now it's over 900 and the management is terrible. It is a great neighborhood and "most" of the people that live here are nice, however, it is very drafty (windows stink) and the walls are sooooooooo thin that I can hear my neighbor peeing in their bathroom. Overall, it's not worth the money.

                    Charm, but needs work

The old side of the building is nice and charming and all, but there's a lot of ways they skimp on repairs. The windows are super drafty and can't be opened properly. I suggest it's time for management to evaluate the value of replacement windows if possible. The bathroom fixtures are in need of repair/updating and the bathroom and kitchen are pretty small. No dishwashers/garbage disposals are a negative. It definitely is charming but there are drawbacks. Mangment at this time is good. Maintenance is not overly responsive. Need more maintenance staff possibly. Think this could be a perfect place if ownership did not cut corners and was willing to spend a little money on repairs/upgrades. Suggest carpeting in halls so doors slamming are not so loud. Suggest locks on outside doors due to increasing Allentown crime.

                      Good experience

I have had a good experience living here so far. I like the hardwood floors I have and the soundproofing is great. The cleaning staff cleans out the hallways pretty often and I feel safe. There was one break-in in the storage area, but they secured the locks the next day. The only problem here would be that sometimes the large tree branches fall and damage cars in the rain that we have been having lately. I hear my rent will go up even if I renew..so hopefully it´s not much. Downside of the apartments: no central air in the old building that I am in, but the apartment is so quaint I can look past it.

You will not be happy living here

The office staff is extremely uncooperative, the windows are in ill repair (even w/ large cracks in the glass--a safety hazzard), and it is generally very stressful to live here. Be smart and stay away!!! As soon as my lease is up, I´m outta there!

Ok, but horrible management, noise, value for money

Overall I like my apartment but the site manager is extremely rude, had a bad attitude from the start and never responds to complaints/suggestons. My rent went up $25 for my second year lease. Stay away from this one. They will sell you on it being a classy place but once they´ve got you in a lease, they´ll treat you like crap while jacking up your rent and refusing to accomodate even the most reasonable request.
BEWARE!!!

Not all what it appears to be

I was very selective when it came to choosing an apartment, and I inquired and/or toured almost every apartment complex in Whitehall/Allentown. I was beginning to think I would never find a decent place when I found Highland Gardens. As soon as I walked in the apartment I loved it and knew I would take it. I lived in the newer section of the complex, and it appeared to be very classy.
Boy was I wrong.
nice area yet poor management

I moved here for the area and the price. I was told that rent rarely increases, yet $20 increase first year! Walls were not painted when I moved in. Windows are in horrible condition and some cannot be safely opened. Landscaping is very nice, but cleanliness in basement and hallways needs improvement.
