Resident 2011

11/16/2011

I moved into my 1BR apartment w my boyfriend the spring of 2011. Landlord was super nice about selling us the place, I have a cat and she told me she would waive the pet fee ($25 per month) if we applied that day. As soon as we started the paperwork she was disorganized, and was only concerned with getting our money and our signatures. We had seen the model apartment (which is beautifully kept), and kept asking her about the model we were going to be moving into, if we could see it. She said that someone was living in there at the moment but he was going to be moving out shortly before we moved in. We finally saw our actual unit and it was disgusting, WAY different than the model. The landlord assured us that it was going to be painted, cleaned, all taken care of for our move in day. The day I moved in, my mom and I spent half the day cleaning the apartment ourselves and the paper towels we used came up black/brown, so disgusting. The previous tenant was a smoker and the place smelled horrible. The sliding door to our patio isn't secure and we live on the first floor so we have had to secure it ourselves with a 2 by 4. The AC unit isn't sealed properly and the windows let in a draft as well so it gets extremely cold in the winter. The bugs in this place are RIDICULOUS and CONSTANT. In the summer we had ants, there are always centipedes, spiders, worms and flies. There are spiders that come in and I have never seen them before in my entire life. I literally do a "bug check" where I have to walk around and just kill bugs, on the walls and on the floors. There is excessive mold in my bathroom. I clean my bathroom once a week with bleach, and the mold keeps coming back. The cabinet underneath my sink is completely unuseable. I called the landlord about the mold but maintenance never does anything. The biggest problem I've had was when my toilet started leaking from the bottom (not the tank). I had to call emergency maintenance and luckily someone came over. He basically took the toilet up from the floor and saw that the whole thing was installed improperly, with the wrong materials. Basically the water from the sewer was coming up into my bathroom and flooding it. That has luckily been fixed but now the flies in my bathroom are constant. He shampooed the carpet around my bathroom door but it still stinks. I have been counting down the days of my lease being over after I have been living here for 1 month. The rent is ridiculous. I pay $812 for my 1BR and it's not even worth $400 in my opinion. Not to mention the neighbors are extremely loud. I have called the police on the tenant upstairs twice so far, and the last time I had to call the police when they were having a partie there was someone passed out drunk in the front yard by our entrance. The laundry facilities are a joke. There are two machines for 8 apartments and they never work right. I actually drive to my parents' house to do my laundry. My boyfriend has asthma and ever since we moved in he never feels well. This place is disgusting and horrible, don't ever live here. They'll never update this place!!
