Resident 2008 - 2009

12/7/2009

I lived in the Bradford for a year and a half. It was a wonderful two-bedroom apartment right behind a shopping center and I signed my lease on a special where I got one month of free rent. However, a few months into living there, the bug problem began. I am not referring to a few fruit flies here and thehttp://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/PA-Bradford-Bradfor that does not bother me at all. There were American cockroaches and stink bugs and others that I could not identify. Aside from leaving dirty dishes in the sink once in a while, I am a clean person. There was no excuse for this infestation. When it began to get really bad, I purchased my own spray, which only seemed to kill on-the-spot, and the problem continued. And not only were there bugs crawling around my apartment, but they would leave a great deal of awful smelling reside behind in cabinets and on the counter and refrigerator top (I had no idea they could create so much waste). So, I let the landlord know about what was going on, and it turns out that there were quite a few other places with bug infestations. They sprayed in the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The bug problem continued, I let them know, and they sprayed maybe three more times in the summer. This meant that I had to waste my time removing items to and from my cabinets every few weeks and yet the problem CONTINUED. AND once sprayed, whether by myself or them, there would always be a graveyard of bugs for ME to clean up and a kitchen to re-sanitize. Clearly this wasn't working and why were they only spraying the cabinets when the problem was all over???????? After basically giving up, I opted to move out. In packing all of my possessions, I discovered that the bugs had created nests, been leaving residue and eggs behind any shadowy area that they could get into- behind picture frames and mirrors, and in my CD PLAYER, MICROWAVE, COLLEGE DIPLOMA, and night stand drawer. I would take a picture off of my wall and have to spray immediately to kill the herd, ruining a few of my posters. In all, I spent over $20 on cans of spray. I had to throw away a perfectly good CD player and microwave and I had to send for a new college diploma from Penn State. In addition to the monetary things, much time and stress went into dealing with this situation. After moving, it soon became clear that I had carried some of these creatures with me. At least 20 bugs were killed before I YET AGAIN went to the store and purchased a heavy-duty bug spray with a pump as well as traps for cockroaches. This is not going to happen to me again at the fault of the Bradford Apartments in Hagerstown.
