My wife and I will be moving into a 2nd floor one bedroom(not phase III). First off others comment that they pay heating bills of like $150 to $350...YOU ARE AN IDIOT. The only way you would have to pay that much on heating is if you are leaving your windows open. I worked at a place where we had gas heat and the only insulation was the alluminum building (size of average house) with 4 big bay doors. We kept the temp at about 70/75 and it cost us $150 a month to heat that thing. Now if we were in a small 2 bedroom apartment, with small windows, brick walls, shingle roof and some form of insulation it would only cost us like $60 to heat something like that. I have been told cooking gas and dryer gas is included in the rent. So that leaves the only gas you must pay for is the heating gas and hot water gas. One of the first things I looked at when I went into the model was the hot water heater. Sure enough thankfully it does have a temp. knob. I know out of personal experience you can turn it down to warm. the pipes won't freeze and you can knock off a 1/3 of your hot water bill. So with your own washer and taking showers you won't be paying much. Next you have the washer. You don't need hot water to wash the clothing. If its not too dirty (hence like if you work in an office or don't get dirt/food all over it) you can wash them in cold water(just don't be packing the washer so full you can't stick you hand in and touch the inside bottom). As for showers who takes hot showers? Personally i like to feel the warmth on me but not the tingling hot sensation. My wife takes colder showers than I do. So now because your water temp is turned down you won't be paying for the hot water that is only then be mixed with cold water to make it bearable. You are paying for warm water that is mixed maybe with some cold water depending on your preference. Boom savings! As for electric get those really cool spindle bulbs that us about 27 watts and produce that of an old fashioned 100 watt bulb. I will use this in our bathroom and kitchen. Everything else will be a "40/60" watt bulb and actually be 12/17watts. Boom big savings on the electric. You don't need a high watt bulb to watch TV or read a book. It is better to buy a desk lamp and use one of those 12 watt "40" bulbs. Thankfully for us I have invested in L.E.D lighting and will be paying next to nothing in electric bills other than refridge, microwave (when plugged in), washer, dryer. Another cool tip is get a surge protector and turn it off when what you are using is not in use. Leaving for the day turn the one the sound system, tv, vcr, dvd, playstation. is hooked up to off. Even though these appliances may be turned off they are still pulling the same watts to them. However if you have surge protector with an off/on switch those combined 3000 watt items will instantly turn into 0 watts! Why pay for something when you aren't using it. If you really want to save money unplugg them and only plug them in when you want to use them. Like that 1000 watt microwave is sucking up 1,000 watts so you can look at its digital clock. Keep it unplugged. Buy a $5 wall clock from walmart and $1 batteries from the dollar store and that clock will have juice at a cost of $0.20 a year. Also if anyone doesn't know this. Keep the tempurature at the temp that is warm for you. If you turn it down when you aren't there and back up when you are it will easily cost you an extra $40-$80 for just an apartment and a good $150 to $350 for a house. Want to save a little more on your heating bill? Keep your blinds open. The sun from outside will penetrate your windows and help heat. When it is night time blinds close to help block heat from escaping. See simple cost effective / cost nothing ways to save money. I also have natural remedies for keeping those annoying stink bugs out of your home. Its a plant that emits a smell that annoys them. You put one in each of your windows and you shouldn't see any more stink bugs. I say shouldn't because we all know what OFF spray on yourself bug spray does and it "should" help keep most bugs off you. Though we all know bugs will still land on you. and fly in your face. just not as bad. Oh another heating bill saving strategy. Live on the 2nd floor. Heat travels up and if someone is living under you...they are essentially paying for you to be warmer. We have chosen this place based on location. price. and b/c we want private entrance, washer/dryer, and love the layout. So if it is bad we will let you know every little problem that we have right here. Thank you everyone for your time. I hope some people have learned how to save money. I will keep you all posted. I'm giving this place 5 stars to start out with. Innocent until proven guilty works pretty good for the legal system. Overtime I will adjust actual star ratings. Even if I need to type them in myself.
