Enjoyed it for my 2 years of school
I lived at Jenkintown Gardens for 2 years while finishing grad school. I picked the place mostly because it allowed me to have my dog. Very few places in Philly (at least in the surburbs) allow you to have a dog, and many of the ones that do charge you extra on the rent; and with the crazy Philly prices already, you don't want to tack on another $50 to the rent. My stay at JG was mostly good. It has a very basic kitchen and bathroom, plenty of hot water, a gas stove which came in handy during power outages (which there were many of my first year there). The courtyard is a nice place to walk the talk, talk to the neighbors and it is away from the main road and its traffic. It has a great location, close to a grocery store, restaruants, and downtown Jenkintown, and its close for a few colleges. The biggest con for me was the heat, no matter what people say. My apt stayed in the low 60's the whole winter, no matter how many times "maintanence came to fix it" it was freezing. The way the staff handled this was to give everyone an electric heater for their apt, problem is we pay the heating bill so since we didn't pay gas and the owners did, they kept the heat low, and made us jack up our electric bills by using those big heaters. The summer wasn't too bad, I had 2 a/c units in my apartment, and was quite comfortable. Overall the community was very nice. There are a lot of dogs and young adults in the community, and there is always someone to talk to. Its right down the street from a dog park which was great. One great thing I'd like to mention is my refridgerator. My fridge just pooped out one day and everything it got spoiled. I called maintainence before I left for work that morning and by that afternoon they had brought in a new fridge for me and removed the old fridge (after I had cleaned it out). Maintainence is usually good about coming when you call. Overall I enjoyed my time there, it wasn't the ideal place to be, but I was happy there for my 2 years.Share This Review
