I was carjacked at gunpoint here...moved out the next week
What a decrepit, dangerous place to live. I spent my junior year at SJU living here and had an awful time. The apartment is located in a dangerous part of town. During the winter my car was broken into with over a thousand dollars of damages resulting. Then in May (almost one year ago from today) I was carjacked at gunpoint as I exited the side entrance that leads into the courtyard. My girlfriend was already in the car and is lucky to be alive today. We told Susie about the incident immediately but SURPRISE SURPRISE she broke the law by not notifying my fellow residents of the crime. My girlfriend later found out that two days before we fell victim to this armed crime our nextdoor neighbor was mugged at gunpoint in the courtyard.

Needless to say my girlfriend and I broke our leases and moved to Wynnewood...best decision of my life to this point!

Oh and did I mention that if you choose to live at Pennbrook your next door neighbor might just turn out to be a prostitute who verbally and physically abuses her 3 year old son? Yeah that was a blast...real college atmosphere.

So:

A. Pennbrook is in shabby condition...halls smell like decades old puke, ceiling tiles in the bathrooms cave in regularly and maintenance is slow to respond

B. area is completely unsafe, unsavory ------ elements from a few blocks down regularly victimize residents

C. management is irresponsible in not notifying residents of crimes committed on the grounds

D. many of the residents are low-lifes

If you are an SJU student, look elsewhere for housing.

If you are poor and can't afford to live elsewhere I suggest you live in a homeless shelter or a box on the street, I would choose either option over paing to stay at the Pennbrook.Share This Review
