Resident 2004

7/24/2004

First, the property has been recently sold. It is still being advertised as an Albert M. Greenfield property, but it is not. The new management is very unfriendly, actually, hateful....they are unwilling to honor agreements made between tenants and the previous owners. They are completely unconcerned with the needs and wants of the current residents. That is the first warning....it is even being advertised as something that it is not...even the tenants here are not informed of what's going on, so why would you be informed of anything? They will get you trapped in a lease under misleading terms, and then you'll be stuck. Also, the building is being renovated, and tenants are being shifted out of their apartments into other ones (which requires that you have to move). So, new management comes in, pushes you out of your apartment so they can renovate it, when in fact, the tenants that live here have had problems all along, such as: 1) crappy amenities, 2) downright filthy entry ways and carpeting, 3)leaky windows that freeze on the inside during the winter months and drip on your furniture and electrical appliances as it melts, 4) leaky ceilings that weren't attened to, 5) inconsistent heat and air that is VERY VERY EXPENSIVE (HVAC)---and you pay a pro rata share of the entire building, which means you could go away for a month and still have a bill to pay when you come back! 6) windows that are sealed shut---which, they don't point out to you when you move in, 7) and best yet, the Art Institute made an agreement with the management that this building could be used as dorms for their students....so, you have a ton of young students hanging out in front of the building, having loud parties, etc. Not to say that all of the students are bad...not true, but it does change the feel of the building, and it changes the clientelle. Now, the building is mostly students and temporary corporate housing. Not at all what is was when we agreed to live here. <br> So, moral of the story is this....maybe in 5 or 10 years, when the new management has made all of the changes they want with increased rent money from the tenants, this might be a place you want to look....maybe. But, in the meantime, you can ask anyone that has lived in this builing or currently lives in this building how it really functions. You won't get a good answer. In fact, many tenants have moved out, and I don't blame them. We definitely will not renew our lease here, and we want to warn everyone about this building. If you do look anyway, just remember that the people that show the apartments no longer even work for the people who own the building, and maybe you should ask for the new management to show it to you....just so you can see in person how unfriendly, cold, and hateful the new management is. Good luck!
